For MOT PURPOSES how can prove my LHD Hymer 1996 has an odometer that records kilometre and not miles .
when was imported in 2008 the LHD headlamp units were exchanged for RHD units and the speedometer face
only was replaced with a face having MPH numbers as the dominant marking, leaving the odometer as original
ie kilometres.
Does anyone know of a company or an official body that could test and certify that it is recording kilometres .
it makes a big difference 237,000 miles sounds a lot more than the 147,000 miles it has done .
many thanks for bothering to read all this . Best regards Alan.

It should have been noted on all mot's that odometer reading was in kms.
Originally it was , and then for four years the mot certificate changed format with no box to put miles or kilometre , after that it automatically became miles when the format changed again .
mistakes happen :)

The French use a system whereby you can write a formal note and swear "on your honour" that such and such is true. The original is signed and given to the other party. Would that work for you?

We call that a statutory declaration. Sworn in front of a solicitor or other notary.

I wonder if it would show as a discrepancy (or any clarity) on an HPI check.

Thinking out loud, I wonder if a vehicle engineering consultant, eg Van Weight Engineering, would be able to issue a certificate after recording the odometer readings over a measured kilometre?

Good Luck.

I presume they charge for that though. This way it is free but obviously less official so rather unlike the French who usually do everything in triplicate. Noticeable that there is no bible or whatever involved because the state is strictly secular.

I once had time do this relating to an insurance policy where I had lost the paperwork. Had to swear on a bible and when I pointed out to the commissioner for oaths his 'bible' was only the New Testament he said he'd used it for years and I was the first person to notice.

not sure the DVLA would be convinced :)

Drive along a "standard mile" maintaining 30 mph. This will show if both your speedo neddle and the odometer are correct.
Date, location and time can be recorded using a mobile phone.

Had simular problem with my Bongo. Talk to MOT station and since a period (cant remember may be 14 days ) had expired they could not change it at MOT station but gave me an address to Write to (snail mail) and eventualy it got changed , however this was over 5 years ago. If Not Keep a copy of MOTs with km on, any body with 3 brain cells will understand.

I don’t mind paying, but convincing the dvla is the difficult bit :)

Good thinking but I don’t think the dvla will accept that :)

I’ve had conversations with the mot tester without success, was the address connected to the dvla ?

My original German VW Westy still has LHD lights and Kms speedo which is marked as such.

It has been MOTed every year with gaffer taped headlights (which is allowed) and I just cross out miles on the test certificate and add kms.

A motorbike I had had small stickers on the speedo where 30, 40, 50, 60 were. Main dial was Kms. MOTed for many years no problem.

Many years ago, junior solicitors used to do “swears” as a means to enhance their income. So someone coming in to swear an affidavit (£5 for the affidavit and £2 per exhibit) would be ushered into a room by the lucky solicitor where there were bibles, the Quran etc kept in a drawer under the desk.
Having done one such “swear“ I was mortified to notice, when the deponent had left, that the ’bible’ they had grasped whilst declaring turned out to be a Latin legal dictionary!

We had a Toyota HiAce with the same issue - never did get it sorted but it didn't matter as it ended up being scrapped when we could no longer get the parts for it.

I think if I was trying to sell it I'd put it as 147,000 miles (237000 km) in the advert, emphasising the miles. When I had our previous motorhome a Sunlight LHD MOT'd at the local authority testing centre I asked them to put miles on the certificate which they did, rather than KM. The guy said it didn't matter to them what it was.

Probably as full of rubbish as the bible.
