I do about 30k miles a year on business . This weekend was the longest trip , so far with our new MOHO - 600 miles from southampton to snowdon (beautiful) and the mumbles (also beautiful) I’m 3 nights - and I do feel a little knackered . What daily Milage do the funsters tend to aim for on their trips ( average ) .

Put it like this.. We do Benidorm in 2.75 days
That is from Calais so roughly 1150 miles
We leave Calais on the morning of Jan 15th and are booked on site on the 17th
Same every year. And no toll roads :-)

That's a 'how long is a bit of string' type question. If heading for the ferry Hull to dover/Plymouth Portsmouth, we usually do it in one go but sometimes do a pub stopover near the port. When we first started motoehoming we went hell for leather and drove for hours, till we met a couple who sometimes only drove for half an hour if somewhere close took their fancy.
Prefer taking our time and making the journey part of the holiday, 2 hours being our preferred length but have driven for up to 7 hours, sometimes sharing the driving but mostly me.
our trips tend not to have anything more than an ultimate area, this year it will be Italian lakes.
We do however drive right home when we get off the ferry, sometime wilding near home as entry to storage is timed unless prior arrangements are made.

Depends how much time you have and whereyou want to get to. We sometimes have done 450 miles in a day other times 20!. We seldom stay in the same place more than one night

We try and aim for 2 x 2hr sessions. We're not religious about it and have on occasions gone much further but generally this suits both me and our dog!

We travel no more than 120 miles per day as a rule, that let’s us get where we’re going and still have lot’s of time in the day to enjoy sightseeing rather than being stuck on a road half the day. We have all the time in the world to just meander, so we do.

All depends on where we are going and how long we have. Most of our holidays are in France, and a couple of times a year we head to the Sth of France.
We have done it in 3 or 4 days and we have also done it 2 days, all depends if we have to catch the tunnel if we have stayed to long in the sun down south.

As the replies so far demonstrate there is no consensus. Just do what you are comfortable with. Folk use their MHs in very different ways. We tend to "tour" changing location every few days. When we drove to Sicily it took us 16 days to get there which worked out at an average of 100 miles a day. We didn't drive every day but we rarely did more than 200 miles a day. When we got to Sicily we spent a month driving about 1000 miles, I don't think we spent more than 3 nights in any one place. But on the return we did two long days driving more or less from the bottom of Italy to the top. It was just too hot to want to stop in the afternoon so we kept on driving. :)

As an ex trucker I like to get a long journey done and dusted. We had a job done on our awning by Thule in Belgium in Oct then we got to the Med in 18hrs driving time in a day and a half. Here till March then a couple of hours a day as we mooch up to Barcelona visiting friends and family on the way.

You need to stop pulling up for T and wee breaks! You may get there quicker!

Joking of course.......;)

One year we went to lake Garda for a bikers do in a Smart car ( yer.. heard all the jokes LOL !!)
Left Thetford at 4am, pulled up at the site at 10pm that night..
Woman was NOT happy..in fact she still whines on about it 13 years later

I have done it on the bike several times in a day, but that is pretty easy :) Nowadays Maureen insists we stop for lunch and to let Dillon 'stretch his legs'

We load up to go racing , leave 6pm on a Thursday. arrive at track Friday , ride Saturday & sunday , and back at work Monday . Nearest race this year is 20,mins south of Charleroi . Last one was Frankfurt, and we broke down on the way back, got recovered and got home 6am Monday morning. 1200 mile round trip.

Last trip to Portugal of 3500 miles took us 7 days to get across France. 100 miles a day is a nice pace but with us it can be anything from 20 miles to 300. If we come across somewhere nice we stop for the night.
We are on holiday no point in rushing but if the weather is good and we like the place we spend longer in the area so it means we have to push a bit on the way home.

Me and wife travel to Romania 3 to 4 times a year since 2003. From North London to North Est of Romania, 2500km-1560 miles in two days straight, one way. There was on few occasion, we did 2.5days due to snow. This last time we did it actually in less than 48hrs. We usually set off late evening, get a 10-11pm crossing and bomb it till past Frankfurt and then get some kip just before morning rush hr. About 10-11am get up, wash, eat, and next sleep stop is just past Wien, before Hungary border. From there fresh 6-7 am carry on to destination arrive anywhere 7 to 12 pm on that evening. It all depends on weather, no weekends.
On the way back we will take our time specially now we got a camper and can stop at any moment we like.

Tend to work on time more than distance.

We try to limit it to a maximum of 5 hours travelling time, taking breaks every 1.5 to 2 hours. Sometimes we will only run for one hour. We may travel every day to reach our original destination but will then only move on when we consider ourselves “ready” to do so.

We tend to cover about 15k to 18k a year in total.

We simply love the freedom to visit out of the way and less popular places although, like most other members, we also spend some time in the “must see” areas.

I'm retired and in no rush so the longer a trip takes the better I like it. I only tour abroad and rarely set a destination so might wander only 20 miles one day if I spot somewhere interesting, but perhaps 200 max to get somewhere for an event happening on a specific day. I don't (need to) use motorways.

I always try to aim for a maximum of 50 miles a day (after we have got to the country or area we aim to explore) as otherwise it turns into a driving holiday for me which isn’t what motorhoming is about (in my opinion).

It all depends where we are or where we want to be, but I always take a break after a couple of hours or so and we are never in a rush. Over the last 6 weeks we have covered around 3500 miles and over the next few days we will be driving home, about 600 miles from where we are now, so we will cover around 200 miles a day with plenty of breaks.

In February on my first overseas trip in our 27 year old Vw campervan I’d intended to drift southwards over a week or two.
Ferry to Santander, two nights on the free site at Palencia ( thanks to posts on here ? ). Temperature was minus 2 second night, faulty leisure battery so no blown air heating, wrong adapter for hook up. Fortunately my wife presented me with a hot water bottle before I left, me not thinking I’d use it, probably saved me ?
But back to the thread. I packed up and just kept driving till I got to Roquetas de Mar, about 500 miles, shorts on, bike out, wonderful.
The next four weeks were much more leisurely never more than 50 miles a day until arriving in Portsmouth to a night of torrential rain and I drove 300 miles home.
If the weathers warm life can be much more chilled! At least it is for me.

We travel in Europe twice a year, on motorways, since the year we took 5 hours to get to a campsite in France that Yvonne saw that it stated on its notice board 2hrs to Calais by Motorway!!!!

We take 3 days to do the 900+ km drive to South of France which is between 300-350 km a day.

this gets us at the campsite at around 15-16.00 so we can rest up then walk around the area.

It works for us now we are retired.

We do what mileage we feel like on the day. We rarely book anywhere so do not have to be somewhere by any particular time or day. So if we see somewhere interesting or get bored travelling we just stop.

If I'm on a long trip I like to get the bulk of it done asap. Particularly in areas I know well or are flat and boring, Northern France especially. While you're behind the wheel you might as well keep going. Conversely if the stop or site is good and well placed, why not explore. 2 nights gives you chance to do this, with time to relax. I certainly don't do one hit trips any more. I can remember in the 60s doing door to door W London to S of France including ferry in 24 hours in the car doing crazy speeds. That was before motorways. Looking back I can't believe it. Different times. Different person, I think. I don't think I'd like the old me! Not so sure about the present old one. Nowadays 6 or so hours max, of course much less if meandering.

Don’t you find it easier to take the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry?

Depends where we are going have used it a couple of times and love the short drive home, but you can't get direct to Spain from there ;) cost wise it is cheaper driving south and being nearer final destination, though we have meandered down to Portugal and come back from Santander. the drive through Portugal, Spain and France, in the winter is, for us a killer. Used the tunnel for the first time this year and loved it.

We like to make the journey part of the holiday, and my husband, who does most of the driving, has a heart condition and gets tired easily because of his medication. Because of this we try to meander towards our ultimate destination doing about 100 miles max per day. We vary this depending on what kind of roads we need to travel on, as some roads are more stressful than others. It's all down to personal preference, not getting too tired to and we have always drive safely, and ensuring you actually enjoy the driving that you do rather than it being something that you force yourself to do. Having a motorhome is all about taking time to stop and smell the roses. Speaking of which, I recommend a visit to David Austin in Wolverhampton - the roses really warrant a good sniff - and we have always managed to get our Buzz into the carpark. And there is a nice café- win, win, win!!
