I am stopping at Peuplingues Wed for couple of days and thinking of looking around coastal area Boulogne etc. Wondering if its too close to Calais and migrant problem ?

I think most of them have already got here!!!!!!!!!!!
5,000 in dinghies already this month according to the R4 6 o'clock News.
Makes you wonder why they bother to check in your loo for the remote possibility of finding just one.

We stopped at Boulogne 2 yrs ago and felt uneasy with what looked like an immigrant hanging around. We decided not to leave the van. 2 days later we read of a dog kidnap from the day we were there. Be careful.

Sorry, not being funny, but is there a link between immigrants and dog kidnapping?

We were in Calais/Dunkerque last week and saw a lot of guys wandering around, doing a bit of shopping etc. Also occasionally a random individual wandering along the motorway. There were a couple of red cross vans handing out water etc. at the supermarkets in Calais.

Maybe, maybe not. I’ve said my experience , what’s wrong with that. Is there a difference between a nit comb and a Bain comb🤔
Did I say there was anything wrong? I was just curious. It was just an interesting statement you made.

Hope not, because I am not going there again if I think my dogs will be stolen 😟

To be fair dog napping was rife here in certain areas as well a year or two back but seems to have tailed off (sorry!) after the market for 'covid stay at home dogs' market is no longer what it was, in fact rather the opposite from recent reports. So I think you should have no worries now either side of the water.

I wonder what's on the menu tonight Egon

1000 made the crossing today, a new record.

It’s a pity we can’t just provide a processing centre in Calais as the French have suggested. The genuine ones get help while the non genuine ones get refused before they get here. Nobody drowns.

It’s even more of a pity that we don’t still have the Dublin agreement where we could legally take them back to France, hence why there are so many making the dangerous crossing since we left the EU.

A tragedy that there are so many people risking their lives regardless.

We don’t stop anywhere near Calais in case someone is tempted to try and get aboard.

Nothings changed, They came before, during and after. We never did take any back because the French wouldn't have them

The number coming pre Brexit was minuscule. They only do it now as once here they are legally our problem which wasn’t the case before.

While I agree with you, the reason the numbers are crossing now are so high is the smugglers know we have no legal recourse. If that amount had crossed before we could have forced the French to take action. Cest La Vie.

While waiting for our ferry at Patras (Greece) I watched migrants, in broad daylight trying to get beyond the port entrance barrier's and was amazed at how openly they kept trying to get beyond the security and watched them climbing under HGV's only to be picked up by sniffer dogs at the entrance gate. I mentioned it to security and they told me it went on day after day and if caught they were just released and obviously they would try again and I assume continue to try to the point of success. The other thing that was impressive was there agility and fitness. They could climb a 15 foot security fence in two quick movements and I suspect they did this a number of times a day. If they decided to use force against tourists we would not stand a chance, they are quick, strong and mostly all young men. The main deterrent to this I believe is the rigorous checks that take place when entering the ferry port. I listened to a programme a few days ago where it was said that almost one hotel in every town in the UK is housing illegal migrants and in the same programme it was estimated there was half a million illegal immigrants in the UK.

Sorry, I made a mistake on the number for yesterday it was actually 1295. All of which will be put up in hotels and not have to worry about the cost of food or heating
Not to worry about the cost of food and heating must be great. All they have to worry about now is not getting sent back to a murderous regime or Rwanda. It sounds amazing.

Joking aside, if we had a Government concerned about fuel and food bills it wouldn’t be an issue anyway.

It always amazes me how decent, relatively well off people can get so annoyed at others wanting a better life and risking that life to achieve it. Thousands dying in hospital delays but get triggered by people in small boats.

They are humans who deserve our sympathy and understanding, the responses from some people about the subject always makes me disappointed.

They are refugees awaiting processing. Once they are rejected (majority aren't as they have a legitimate case), they become illegal immigrants and get deported. The reason there are so many refugees in the system is the system is slow and there's a massive backlog of years. This isn't because so many are arriving (the numbers have remain pretty much unchanged for years), it's because we're dealing with them so slowly. If we want less people stuck in accommodation which obviously costs a lot of money, we need to process them faster.

I think (might be wrong?) that the majority of the illegals in the UK are people that arrived on a Visa that expired and they haven't left. In terms of numbers, dinghies aren't a significant problem.

And overall, people arriving in boats make up a tiny proportion of the immigrants into the UK each year.

I know someone who recently bought a large hotel he was going to develop the land but instead is cashing in housing migrants and planning to buy another one to continue doing the same.

This is all true which is why it drives me nuts.

The Government cry about the small boats and use it to detract from their useless asylum system with the help of the Daily Fail et al.

So you are in favour of unlimited numbers of people being able to just enter UK if they feel like it ?

there is an issue with them and stealing full stop.

The issue is you cant identify which are stealing and which arent so I understand the point made. Take no chances.

some may steal dogs for meals, some may steal dogs to sell, some may not steal . All about risk.
I was there last week, and gangs down the motorway between calais and dukirk, in the old railway cuttings, and the usual places in Calais. They are not all desperados, and thieves, but until they give out badges or caps, id be well aware.

Desperate people that need real help can do desperate things
