Had one for 5 years many moons ago. Now starting again.
On Channel 4 at 8pm tonight:

George Clarke's Amazing Spaces

New series. George Clarke checks out some unusual mobile homes, including a converted railway cattle carriage, a vintage Morris Minor Caravanette in need of extensive renovation, and a 1970s builders' van being transformed into a luxury camper. He also begins a tour of Spain's tiny homes in the Sierra de Las Nieves mountains in southern Andalucia

Much prefer George Clarke to Kevin McCloud. Optimism and encouragement over doom and gloom any day!

Would like to see a follow up on the practicalities of their first motorhoming adventure to ....Cornwall!
I’m not sure many sites would take a vehicle like that and the weight? Not only an oak barrel bath but a brick floor and lots of hardwood inside.
I know he took his HGV licence but it’s going to be tricky.
Did anyone see a loo?

Looks like this whole series is going to be related to camping aspects.

I really enjoyed it too but I thought slightly irresponsible as I would would be concerned that this might encourage others to mimic without the considerations of the vehicle balance, appropriate brakes and suspension. How was the cattle truck fixed to the vehicle chassis when on cornering there would be a huge number of forces trying to jump the habitation 'box' off the frame. Presumably they would have to go through an MOT which maybe self policing?

Kevin McCloud is rubbish and his programmes are deceitful!!

Didn't want to say that .......... funny thing is that maybe you remember the Serviceman who was injured and built his own home? Martin was part of the specialist team involved making sure the regulations were complied with etc etc. Never a mention of all the help he received from all the authorities and others involved with the build - many of whom waived fees, got involved and dirty and made sure the whole thing was successful. Many were promised they would have an acknowledgement in the credits but it never happened.

Had the tv company not been involved most would have gone above and beyond anyway (or at least done their jobs as best they could) but the tv company insisted things were done to the filming schedule even when that was not the best way to do things, some things had to be undone after the cameras had left and the whole thing left a nasty feeling as the final result could have been so much better had the specialists been left to do what they knew about. This is not a rant at the man who built the house but at the tv company :)

Funny thing was when we saw waht was supposed to be the final thing there were shouts form around the viewing room

"That's not what happened"
"He didn't tell me that"
"That's not on the plans / drawings"
"That doesn't comply"

We had a similar experience with a McCloud programme about living in the wild in Chile. My great nephew was involved along with many other young foreigners in building a house on the Villaricca volcano. They were not mentioned and he made a big thing about how dangerous it all was, and it IS the most active Chilean volcano, but my niece lives not far away. The programme inferred they were living miles from habitation and had no neighbours which was completely untrue.

They didn't fool the Guardian reviewer though!!! See https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/jun/16/kevin-mcclouds-escape-to-the-wild-review

Still learning 😊
Loved watching George Clarke and the programme last night was great. The size of that mobile home Simon built for his mother was way over the top. Would be interested to know how much it did weigh and the cost of fuel for getting around in it. But it was a lovely thing for him to do for his Mum. I liked the caravanette but thought the cost of it was too much, think I would have scrapped it. The women who built the house I thought that would be okay for a holiday home but couldn't live in it full time, far too small.

That truck was hideous and a waste of 24k
Can't see many sites taking that and wildcamping won't be easy either. It's hardly inconspicuous, most was unecesary and totally impractical.
Could have bought a half decent motor home for that money

The moggy minor was nice though.

I would be surprised if the hgv "motor home" would survive one trip intact . The amount of flex in the chassis on any sort of uneven ground would most likely shatter the stained glass windows . It would also most likely not comply with Con & Use regs either . The "builder" pretty much prepared you with what to expect as a finished item , I was not surprised in the least

Exactly what I thought. You can just imagine all the creaking, cracking and breaking when it got to the first bend in the road! I still liked it though, but as a static!
