Hi fellow Funsters, new here and off to France on Tuesday for 3 weeks so we needed a quick MIFI solution. We use limited ROKU free TV access, some internet browsing via (phones) and tablet plus a Tapo C100 IP camera looking after things when we are out and about, and maybe Amazon Prime should the weather really turn nasty and we stay in. Also need to connect our Garmin 780 Camper when planning the next day's fun. Reading previous posts here, ideally we would have opted for RWG Mobile but SIM delivery on time is risky.
In the past we have bought a largish GiffGaff Golden Bag for the MIFI, fine for the UK, but ….. As we haven’t been away this year looks like we won’t be able to comply with GiffGaff’s 63 day consistent usage rule to get EU roaming so no point buying another goody bag. Besides only 5Gb EU roaming anyway.
Our quick, far from perfect solution is to buy a Smarty SIM from Argos for £1, activate and top up with £8 or £9 prior to leaving the UK and enjoy 12Gb roaming using the MIFI – will it be enough for our online activities previously mentioned plus site finder apps? Could/should I buy another Smarty SIM in Wifey's name in case the 12Gb doesn't last 30 days. Any thoughts on this plan and how we could do better are most welcome.
