Hi everyone.

We have a 2013 Swift Kontiki 669 with built-in microwave. Yesterday, I noticed that the unit was making a buzzing sound even though it was not being used. My research leads me to a failed magnatron.

We have taken the unit out and see that the model number is BMSW20. When I look online for a replacement, the current model is far too big to fit into the current space and we cannot go bigger.

Has anyone had a similar experience and found a replacement that fits. The maximum width, including the stainless steel surround, is 540mm.

Many thanks in advance.

Iā€™m watching as we need a small microwave for the van. There does not seem to be much choice.

This Russell Hobbs one is a titch, and it also is low power so works on sites with 10amp EHU.
Only downside is that it's quite low powered so might take a little longer than your usual home-based model.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The Russell Hobbs is too small for us and I already have an oven and grill so just need a microwave oven replacement.

I'd look for a combi oven replacement, they have a grill and convection oven too šŸ‘Œ
Only problem with that is whether there is sufficient insulation in the area around the microwave housing to allow use of a convection over due to the heat it will produce, however if there is it's a good choice.

Thanks Minxy Girl. I've read that post over and over earlier today but I'm afraid it doesn't provide a solution.

B&Q no longer stock the item. The Cookology oven looks exactly the same as mine but the dimensions just don't match and seems much bigger. My current max height (with the surround) is only 350mm, the Cookology one seems to be 362mm. Not much of a difference I know but if I am ready the dimensions correctly, it is not a direct replacement.

Maybe a repair is the way to go.

Thanks again.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
When our Panasonic one at home died I bought a new Magnatron for Ā£35 & fitted it cheaper than Ā£250 for a new microwave.

We have a microwave, luckily it has its own circuit breaker and it was turned off on day one (hate the things with a passion)

I did use it once mind, some friends came around and bought some pop corn.

It was in a sealed bag and only cooking option was microwave, so popped out to the MH cooked the pop corn and turned the circuit breaker back off.

Store clean tea towels and carrier bags etc in it.

Tesco, Asda, Dunelm (and other major retailers) all seem to have microwaves small enough for your aperture and drawing low wattage (700 - 1000 watts) for around Ā£40. Best visit armed with your tape measure.
My Ā£38 from Tesco draws just 1000 watts is 8 years old and covered over 50k miles.

The 'usual' failure is the microwave diode followed by the built in fuse. Parts should cost well under a fiver & the fix takes maybe 30 minutes.

Just make sure you don't need a microwave to cook it in! :imoutahere:
