Can anyone recommend which one I need ,just bought a Nextbase 312 dash cam.I haven't a clue and after googling it I'm still none the wiser.Must admit I assumed that everything needed to use the dash cam would be included.

Have a look at the mymemory website. Usually very good prices & there is a grid on the lefthand side of the page where add the detail Of the device you have- you can choose dash-cam - & it offers you suggestions. Great service

Check the Specification, Most will take a 32gb, some are restricted to 16gb. Micro sd cards are getting quite cheap though I tend to go for Kingston, or Sandisk Myself, having been caught out by "cheap" 8gb cards that have been "uprated" to 16 or 32 and fail to capture at the correct rate.

I am running 32gb and class 10 this gives over 3 hrs of recording before over writing itself...by having two I can swap and copy some files to a tablet to keep the scenic bits.

Some take a class 6 card.
I believe the Mio Mivue needs a class 6 or playback can be erratic.
Saying that, I'm using a class 10 32gb in mine and it does seem ok

I seem to remember @Jaws recommending a 16gb when he was selling the dash cam which many, and I mean many, of us bought from him on Fun. As said Class 10 and a decent brand like Kingston or Sandisk.

It is said that the Nextbase cameras work best on branded sd cards, their own in particular, but they would wouldn't they!
However Nextbase cards carry the Scandisk brand also
and recommend once a month re format to maintain reliability

o
I always Reformat NEW ones as a matter of course.
And so you should and always in the device its to be used in,
BUT do you do a maintenance format once a month I suspect many dont, when video is over written an awful lot of crap is left behind of the old stuff every time its over written and this crap is what corrupts important footage when its needed and the camera is often blamed and thought of as rubbish as a result.
A clean Card is a reliable card(y)
