My biggest fear is mice and rats , yes I have mice in MH Iam plucking up courage to go to MH on Sunday and clear them out . Ordered mouse traps to put in van , peppermint oil as apparently don't like smell ,a sonic thing that gives a sound they don't like and foam spray to fill any holes I find.
I asked for used cat litter to put around it .
Is there anything else that I need to do.
I am on tota

You could also get some of the sticky traps but you need to check them several times a day.

I have found they avoid garlic and onion, I assume (dangerous) because of the smell, a similar reason for them avoiding peppermint oil. I've heard (not sure if it is true) that strong smells interfere with the way they find their way around - they follow urine trails.

My brother-in-law insists that they won't cross a solid and continuous white line.

Hi, please be careful which holes you seal as some may be gas drop out holes in case of a gas leak we had some of the little blighters when our van was in storage on a farm site .so we bought a sonic deterrent and it worked fine as no further meeses.

We had them in the van last year in Spain. Tried everything reasonable coz the Mrs is a bit squeamish about killing them.
Gave up and left sticky pads everywhere. You do need to check regularly as it is not nice to leave them suffering, in my opinion, but I got rid of them all in a couple of days.

Yes it is a horrid way to get rid of the problem but if you have tried everything else it may be the only solution. I checked our sticky pad traps every hour or so during the day and generally the rodent was already dead......

Only one way.... killed. The spring traps bated . Don't underestimate the damage they can do... ruined my last MH upholstery and don't need a big gap to get in. If you don't mind the smell moth balls are successful.

Forget the electronic things.
I keep the motorhome in a large workshop. We're by a canal, so rats are common. I bought a large device, big enough for a block of flats, and have it running all the time. Rats found some chocolate left in a ruck sack, once. They don't bother to unbuckle or unzip but just gnaw through everything until they've satisfied their inquisitiveness. Even chewed at soap! I use bait boxes outside, to get them as soon as they com onto our property.
Recently, I went to get more poison, which I keep in the same workshop as the motorhome, to find that the rats had beaten me to it! In spite of the bait being sealed and in a box off the floor, they ignored the sounds issued by the rat repeller. I had thought it was working because there had been no evidence of rats before but now I know that the kind that live around here don't know it's supposed to deter them.
Same with a bird scarer: I have one that issues the sound of every predator known to man when it's triggered by a bird in my veg patch. The problem is that the pigeons that come here must be ESN.

We used Peppermint food flavouring in the engine bay when we had Rats in last winter. Worked well but Peppermint smell goes off after a while!

we also have a problem with mice at home ths time, have 3 traps down, not caught one, but they don't seem to be looking for food or bedding, almmost like it is just a route to where they are getting what they need.
They or it is cheeky blighter sits looking at you and washing itself and only moves if i do. we have an electronic scarer doesn't seem to be doing anything. Wish we still had a cat. Don't like the idea of a sticky pad but may have to resort to that.
had them in the van a couple of years ago but managed to catch them ok.
good luck.
have heard of mice eating polo mints so not sure mint is a good idea to deter them.

You need to catch them on their first recce. Please don't use sticky traps. Spring ones are much more humane. Buy at least 6 traps and bait them with peanut butter. Check them often.

Some one told me mice don’t like the smell of dishwasher tablets.
Last year we had field mouse in the house, It was harvest time. The cheeky sod wandered in the dinning room door and sat looking at us. Our daughter at this point was on the kitchen worktop.
I thought the dog would have scared the mouse off but it took a stealthy grab with a towel then I dropped it into the brambles beyond our garden wall.

Well as far as I can see mice have gone I've cleaned and washed everything and it makes me sad that van looking so good can't use it yet.
Never mind as long as we stay safe worth it

Just sending a virtual hug. I'm sad too.

Tumble drier sheets tucked around the MH were effective in ours. Apparently they don’t like the smell.

I had mice in my previous motorhome one winter; droppings everywhere and torn up J Cloths and a chewed up rubber cap for the overflow under the sink!! My own fault, probably, as I left some food in there - bags of crisps and some dried fruit which - to my surprise - they seemed to enjoy! I am much too squeamish to use any kind of trap; I just can't deal with dead bodies at all.
After checking everywhere I could for the remaining presence of mice, I sprayed WD40 around all the likely entrance holes and blocked up a couple of obvious, accessible entrances with rags (and removed all remaining food). Never had them again - but whether by luck, the lack of food, the WD40 or the blocked holes I could not say. The WD40 idea was advised by the mechanic who looked after my van. He reckoned it never failed, but I have no scientific authority for that.

Had some in the workshop. Wasn’t sure at first but it was one of those times when you think something moved, just out the corner of your eye. Then found the certain traces. Bought a useless humane trap. After that some spring loaded things . Bought 6 as advised by Jim. Felt guilty at first. The guilt disappeared after the first 5. Finally ended up with 19. They must breed like rabbits.
