Interesting Jim but why use out of date regs?
The 17th edition no longer mentions polarity or an issue with it.

I have 2 copies Jim but I am wary of the fact that reproduction is not permitted without the concent of the publishers. Otherwise I'd have done it some time ago

They are now section 721 pages 209 to 213 for those seeking.

The main points still remain, notably fully uncoiling your hook up cable and testing your RCD. Also 25metres of cable plus or minus 2 of 2.5mm

This (to me) raises issues with non british vans that don't have an RCD installed and/or foriegn vans produced for UK (I'd expect these to have an RCD to comply)

ok.. then without copying, type in this thread saying what the 17th differences are ..

and since they are not online, seems to me it's better to have the 16th guidance than none at all ..

how many on here will buy the 17th just to add a socket ..

sometimes I wonder why I bother ..

It has not yet been reviewed against BS 7671:2008 (17th edition), although substantial changes to the content are not anticipated
The contents are believed correct at date of publication, but cannot include every detail of the relevant regulations. Further information can be obtained from the Information Office at East Grinstead, or a qualified electrical contractor.

Yes thank you Jim
The main change is that polarity that some are VERY concerned about is no longer mentioned (dropped) and bear in mind that the 17th edition is first published 2008

Thanks for the info.. I've been out of the industry since 2006, so not seen a copy of the 17th

just to clarify, would it be correct to say that the 17th don't have any major changes for caravan installations ?

I'd say dropping the section on polarity was major.
I'm not sure it was ever in the 16th edition? I now see it is a caravan club leaflet and there is no evidence of where they sourced that part.

Don't have a 16th copy so cannot say for sure, but don't see any mention of polarity on this 'On-site guide' published by Institution of Electrical Engineers which is also based on the 16th

Polarity is covered in one of the sections near the front ( I forget which, it's been a while) It's one of the fundamentals that is considered important enough that it is a given, like insulation and correct connection, so that it doesn't need to be specifically mentioned for any of the special locations
