I think maybe the MI5 phone things were blockers maybe???
No detectors, supposed to sound an alarm, I knew my phone was on when I received a text, luckily my escort didn't hear it or I would have been thrown out and not allowed on site again.

I think we stayed at Camping Memling, its the one in the park about 20 mins walk from Brugge town. It seemed very safe, pitches were quite small but ok. Trees limited satellite reception. Brugge was lovely. Dont miss the boat trips.
Dont worry too much about security, yes be aware on aires. Just do what people say, if it doesnt feel right then move on- I certainly wouldnt fit a wheel clamp for an overnight stop, much better to be able to move off quickly

We have stayed at the Citie many times.
We only have Lockdown (only :))
We have seen (and heard) the hourly Gendarme patrols

AND even saw their reaction to a prowler which was very fast and the guy was overpowered handcuffed and dragged away in 3 minutes--and he never got further than 2m into the aire

It's one of the safest Aires we have visited

After reading a number of recomendations by othe Funsters we have just arrived at Watten Aire, about 40 minutes from Calais according to sat nag.
Very quiet and peaceful, on the bank of a canal, only us here at the mo and it’s free.
We’ll be heading to Cite Europe in the morning to stock up on ‘winter warmers’ before the tunnel home.

When parking at cite europe leave your tunnel mirror hanger in the windscreen, any stowaways will think you have just arrived and travelling on.

Motorhome thieves (LHD), prowlers, stowaways !!!!! It’s starting to become more and more desirable.

We are taking the MH for its first trip to mainland Europe in next few weeks, stopping at Citi Europe over night as soon as we exit the tunnel.

We always fit the steering wheel Disklok even on uk carparks but I'm wondering if I should also take the big wheel clamp for the overnight stop at Citi Europe. We will want to go inside shopping so leaving on the Citi Europe carpark unattended.

Same question about when it's on site at Camping Memling in Brugge?

We have stayed on the Citi Europe on two occasions so far, and have had no problems at all and felt perfectly safe while staying overnight.

Well, been and come back, no issues at Cité Europe, not least because it was probably the worst overnight weather I have experienced in a caravan or motorhome :D, even thieves and migrants wouldn't come out in that :) There were several other MH's on the area, we parked away from the trees as advised, didn't take the wheel clamp but all other security was in use.

I personally wouldn’t stay there, when there are so many quieter places to stay That don’t pose a security problem,
You got wheels so drive out of the area for half hour and get a nice night sleep,

No, and there have been no problems on all the occasions we've stayed over at Citie Europe..................but there clearly was on the night of Tuesday 4th December, which necessitated security being called out.

It won't be for us again. :(

Because of our geographical location, it's more convenient for us to get a late train over and an early train back. For that reason we use Cite Europ as I've no interest in driving any further, usually in the dark and to somewhere I'm not guaranteed to get in. Yes I know you'll say "I've never had a problem getting onto XYZ aire" but it has happened to us. So we've stayed at Cite Europ several times and never felt at all uneasy - but if we did we'd move on, that's our overriding rule on any aire or even campsite.

After reading the recommendations for the free aire at Watten we stopped there earlier this week on our way home.
Have to say it was very pleasant and extremely quiet but it is a fair way from Calais/Cite Europe.
For us Cite Europe is a good stop when you are coming off the train and just want a nearby stop without miles/KM's of driving. particularly in the winter months when it's dark early.
We will use Watten again but either in the lighter summer months or on the way home when we have plenty of time.

So many folk wingeing about perceived dangers of staying at cite de Europe. It’s safe .....but if you don’t fancy it go elsewhere but you won’t be any safer. Maybe stay at home lol.

When you have many hundreds of illegal economic migrants looking for a way to the UK, obviously using the main docks and Chunnel as there hopefully jumping off point,
So why put you and yours in a potentially harmful situation, to me it doesn’t make sense! 1/2 hour drive in land removes that possibility IMO,
Admittedly I am only 45 minutes from the Chunnel so quite happy to put some miles between the ports and my sleeping destination, how I would feel after driving down from up north before the Chunnel I don’t know,
But there are numerous places to kip this side if needed, Canterbury/Hythe and a few more besides,
So again thinking of my family I would park this side if I had done a long drive already or press on thirty miles into France before putting my head down,

Hey, everyone to their own but how many Aires 30 mins from Calais have their own police station , regular patrols by police and safety in numbers in the middle of winter. And there are plenty of immigrants in a lot of the towns near to the coast. Funnily enough in all the times I’ve stayed at Cite I’ve only seen one immigrant and he was stood on a roundabout waving at everyone driving by. Happy, safe travels whichever way you do it.

Agree, but unless you get up at the crack of dawn (which we're not into!) it's effectively lunchtime before you get clear of Calais so lose half a day driving. Okay, we're on holiday so it doesn't really matter but once we're under way we like to get places. Regretfully N. France holds very little interest for us.

Ashford Truck-stop for us, they park you on the staff car park by the restaurant. 8 a.m. train then by lunchtime we’re miles away from Calais. On return it’s Jeugdstadion, Ypres for the last few nights, vets 5 min walk to sort the dog out.
