Has anybody been to the free Aire in Metz recently and got any info ?
Reviews are mixed.
Also someone told me about a great Aire in Luxembourg within walking distance of the city, but on CC I can find nothing and search for sites only find day parking ?
Any other recommendations for route north from Eguisheim, not really sure I want large town's / cities, it's a bit hot for them !

Last time I visited the aire, a few small tents had been left up. Might be more now, but i think i would pay for the campsite and be safe.

I could not spot a convenient aire for Luxembourg city so recently stayed at Camping Bon Accueil in the Alzingen area of the city. It is within walking distance, I walked into the city via one route, walked around all day, then walked back by a more direct route, however it is also on a bus route, so you don't really need to walk.

The Aire at Metz is just 7 spaces in the carpark outside the campsite, but you can park in the carpark plenty of vans in the carpark. The carpark is pay & display we arrived Saturday lunchtime & paid until 6 pm then it was free until Monday morning. Don't think anyone ever checks it I don't think anyone else paid.

Be careful you don’t meet any undesirables trying to get rid of German wine there....

?

I live near Luxembourg. The camping Bon Accueil in Alzingen is indeed a great place to stay. Very well kept. That's where we used to put our caravan to fill it up before going away.
They don't take reservations and are full almost every evening, so plan to arrive mid afternoon latest.
There is an excellent Delhaize super-market very close, no height limit for its parking area, so you can buy all the groceries before going to the camping.
Luxembourg is a great little city with several interesting spots to visit. Most everyone speaks English.
Ah, and you need to pay in cash. There is an ATM very close too.

Recommend the campsite at Metz.We stopped there last year and had riverside spot.Nice place Metz. Our French friends suggested we went here on our way to Luxembourg.Try the pamplemouse ice cream from the ice cream van out side entrance to Park.Aire was outside the Campsite entrance but I would pay the extra and stay on Campsite.

We stayed on the park N ride free and bus into city

We're currently at remich in Luxembourg, moving on today, seeing mention if Metz which is only 30 miles away, we were heading up towards trier, what is Metz like?

Metz is a nice French city with an worthwhile historic center, especially the cathedral.

What's amazing is how 30 miles change the atmosphere and the food completely.

Thank you, decision time now, north or south....

We are at Camping Kockelscheuer near Luxembourg, it was recommended by a friend, who neglected to mention that it is under an aircraft flight path and that I would be served undercooked chicken, just waiting to see if food poisoning kicks in. So perhaps we'll NOT be recommending this place to others !

It was a great place when it was run by the previous manager, but alas he retired. A good man, always helpful, I was sad when he told me it was the last time. Since then, city council has appointed a young couple to manage the camping and, crucially, has imposed new rules that the new managers have no choice but to enforce. One of those says that there can be no motorized exit nor entrance in the camping between noon and 2 PM. Meaning if you're in you cannot get out and if you went for shopping you cannot get back in.

Having never fancied paying to be in prison, we left and never went back.
