I have been in discussions for a German van with a dealer, he tells me its in good condition but there are matt spots on the paintwork which they have tried to polish out, to no avail.

Is this a problem and would it need a re-respray, here are the photos he has sent me.
What do you think?

Looks like either a reaction in the topcoat or needs a machine polish.

Difficult to say just by the pictures.

If it's lacquered finish I was thinking it was lifting and water under possibly which would not be good.

If it will polish I think the dealer would have done it.

The dealer has tried to polish it but its still the same.

Must be an issue with the clear coat then, has there been some touching up in that area?

If moisture was underneath the clear coat you would get bubbling in the area.
