On Friday we were on an Aire in France waiting for our ferry the next morning after having spent the last 5 months travelling down through France, Spain & Portugal to Southern Spain for 3 months then back up through Spain & France home, I started going through all the help and back-up we had gained from being members of this forum. These included route & site guides, advice on the use of Aires ( ex-tuggers so new to us!). We have help with security issues, awnings and their attachments, basic stuff like cola for cleaning grey water tanks & laundry tabs for the loo. I have a MiFi complete with '3' PAYG sims that have been invaluable (Thanks Minxy Girl) Have a wifi booster aerial & set it up using instruction from this site. Recommendations for dash cams/refillable gas/Sat Nav/DIY Duvalays have all been read. Campercontact has been downloaded and used extensively. Paying for the tolls in France & Portugal, where used, was easy after reading about tags and pre-payment. Very importantly we have saved a fortune & lots of worry by reading about how to fix issues with the Alde heating & using the Fridge on gas ourselves rather than paying for it to be looked at. We have become far more confident knowing that if we need to we can "look it up or ask the question"
Today, I realised I was a "Read Only" member, subs were due! Did I renew them, you bet & for the next 3 years, best money (investment) spent after buying the Motorhome itself. So a big 'Thank you' to everyone whose advice we have used over the last 12 months.

My subscription is due for renewal any time soon, and in all honesty the aftermath of the referendum left me wondering whether it was worth the bother.

Then I realised that there is still vital missionary work to be done among the backward heathen superstitious cannibal tribes who still read the Daily Mail and who have still not been brought to the true path of Socialism, and who know nothing of the joys of namby pamby pant-wetting hand-wringing Liberalism. Those poor wretched souls should not be abandoned in their hour of greatest need, so it is without hesitation that I will cough up a few more of your English pounds for another year of MHF. Look on it as an act of charity.

(Plus the technical and travel advice is good, and crossing swords with @Tootles helps keep my mind active :))

I have been a paid member of another forum (which I "lurked" on for a few years before and after my subscription). Then I lurked on here.
I had gained a wealth of knowledge and now consider myself a well-versed Motorhomer and European traveller.
So, my main reason for subscribing here this time is to try and pay back some of the expertise I've borrowed and / or developed.

I remember when I first joined, well, money was tight. We took a loan out from Wonga to pay the £10 subs.:cry::cry::cry: Didnt have much to eat for the next few days, until the foodbank opened.:cry::cry: Even the dog played the violin in the town center to raise a few coppers.
But it was worth it, every penny! (y) all the financial sacrifices we endured to be members payed off ten fold, so many fantastic members, many we have met since, determined to give me a good kicking. :) I mean, what are friends for? And now that the cat's insurance payout has arrived, we can join again this year........(y)

I believe that subscribing to MF was a major deciding factor in getting our own motorhome. Knowing that there is so much experience and advice on here convinced me that wherever we may be (internet allowing) we will be able to get any help we should need. If it hadn't have been for the forum, we wouldn't have known about Vanbitz and would have probably gone for a cheaper, inferior alarm. I am sure, over the next few months certainly, our sub will be invaluable when we're parked up miles from civilisation and need a solution to a problem. Thanks, you lovely lot :*

I joined because people here knew what they were talking about, they were friendly enough to want to help and generally didn't take themselves too seriously

The friendly and helpful advice people have shared here has been worth it's weight in gold to me, it gave us the courage to go out, buy our first MH and spend a lot of time on the road travelling between the UK and Lisbon with confidence. And having that makes a world of difference to your enjoyment

If I were to say it is a bargain, Jim would put up the subs, so to the disappointment of many of you, I will certainly be renewing

Still trucking and learning
Got a phone call the other day from a friend who lives in France. They have been motorhomers longer than we have and are now considering changing their van. They were discussing something motorhome related and couldn't come up with an answer. Her husband said "Call Ann, she'll know the answer". I was really chuffed but said to her that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING I know about motorhoming is because I am a member of MHF and log in daily.
I love this forum.

P.S. I did know the answer. (y)

Well, I think I can state that of all the sites on whatever subject I am a member of, nothing ticks all the boxes like *FUN*. Why? Not sure. I think that maybe a lot of the members get to meet each other, many have similar views on a range of subjects, and those in the know with tech stuff gladly forward their knowledge and advice.
This site has the rare distinction of becoming habitual. We turn it on in the morning to see fresh posts, or to comment on new threads. Some leave it running all day, whilst others come home at night and jump right on. It would have probably gone t**s up ages ago without Jim's policing, and as a part time agent-provocateur, I get a sort of perverted 'kick' out of pursuing a subject right up to the red line. :sneaky: All part of the *FUN*. :)

And Mo's bad jokes make the whole thing acceptable. (y) I think I can speak for many on here blighted by ill health and serious operations. Everyone sends their greetings, and lends their support. It raises your spirits, gives you the will to smile again, and get back to the keyboard. I know from being told on a personal level, that *FUNSTERS*, with their good wishes and comments, helped a seriously ill member to continue on, when he felt his terminal illness was the end of his world. And long may it continue to be so. :)

Right, got to dash. Dont want to miss the 20.04 Coventry express. ;)
