The WildAx Owners' Group received the following enquiry, to which we really didn't have an answer. Perhaps the techies in Fun have some idea of what it implies and can explain it for me?

"Sorry if this has been covered before but we thought this was quite important! We've just met a couple who had a Euro6 engine VWCamper whose leisure battery had melted and they asked if we WildAx owners have the Smart Alternator/Regenerative Braking system installed and had we experience of these issues (and the solutions) as explained here by Charles Sterling:

Many thanks

This is an issue for converters. If what is stated in the article is true then it also affects hab battery charging and 12v operation of the fridge. I find it hard to believe that converters are unaware of it and if it ends up affecting the end user then it's for the dealer to resolve.

The Smart alternator thing has been an issue for a while now and some converters have been caught out but it should just be a matter of switching it off in the software.

If you watch the Charles Sterling videos in the link above, switching off regenerative braking/smart alternator means that your vehicle no longer complies with its Euro 6 certification for emissions and fuel consumption and this is not legal in his view and could also negate your insurance.

Conveniently for his company, his solution is to fit a B to B charger to regulate the voltage rather than having a split charge relay which no longer works with regenerative braking/smart alternator.
