Excellent, stayed there before Christmas for 3 nights. Totally safe police and army around most of the night. Beware though if you don't find it easy to politely brush off hustlers. The gardiends are VERY keen to take you to the local Berber cooperative.

Sorry just looked at the picture, there are two gardien parking lots there within a couple of hundred yards. We stayed in the other through the arch next door to the Palace and barracks. Got it from CCinfos Very intersting if a little smelly nearby street of wool merchants.

we visited in 2007.. the site was a bit basic, but was easy walking into town .. and had a guard at the gate 24hrs

Another couple of great gardien parkings within yards of interest are in Fez just outside one of the gates into the Medina and souks and on a large square withe the storytellers and snake oil salesmen that you can watch out of the van window. Bit more expensive at 6 euros but worth it N34.06167 W4.98417.

And cheaper 2 euros at Taroudant right up against the walls N30.47293 W8.87064 pretty situation between the walls and a pleasant park.

No services in either but we did see the french paying a youth a couple of dirams to takeaway andempty cassettes on his bike LOL

Yes JIm, the site closed a few years ago and is now derelict.
