My father is a transport manager, he was saying that at his CPC refresher, they were told that after 2020 you would only be able to use the GP you are registered with for a HGV medical. Not sure if this would apply to a C1 medical as well.

The GP's are losing out on the £150 that they demand from patients, same as mine did to sign a simple form. Greed is the driving force and they are getting to be the same as most others. I haven't seen my registered GP, and always there is somebody else in there , like a revolving door.

Let's see if that happens. Most of the CPC (as far as I am concerned incorrectly named. It's the DQC) is pointless anyway.
Wouldn't it be better to stop the possibility of taking the same 5 x 7 hour course to attain the card?
AFAIK, that would be an opinion as I certainly never came across anything that would cover that particular issue.
The CPC (the real one) is Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
The little (waste of time money and effort) card is actually called a Driver Qualification Card. No wonder they call it CPC. Dear me

I can assure you that most GPs don't want to do the medicals. We were delighted when the charges came in and it put people off coming to us. They are a waste of our valuable time. We would much rather see people who are sick or try to prevent people getting sick. Whilst some of these medicals don't take long I can assure you some of them do so you have to set aside enough time in case they do take a long time. If a lorry driver has taken time off work for a medical it would be very annoying for them if the Doctor got called out to an emergency. Less likely in a big practice but it was the sort of thing that did happen in a semi rural area like mine where practices were small, covered large areas and we also had a cottage hospital.
The majority of a GPs pay comes from the NHS, only a tiny part of it comes from things like medicals, countersigning gun licences, passports .For the average GP that's the only bit that's classed as Private work.
