It is (cc 13707) only three vans here tonight so still one EHU unused. Very quiet and a bit out of the way, maybe to far out of the way for the rest of the FLT. Moving on tomorrow further south not sure where yet.

Safe travels

Yes Peter, I read that in the reviews in CC , but to be fair I had no problem with 7.5 moho and there was 2 or 3 longer than mine came in .

One of our favourites. A beautiful little Aire in a nice village not far off the N10. The only trouble is that the roads to get there through the village are a bit narrow so needs a bit of care.

We get through in our 7.5m one too, but it would have been more stressful if we ever met a lorry or tractor on the narrower bits in the village. It does not put us off but just makes us think a bit.

Just caught up with your travels, @FIDGET. Hope you get some good weather soon. Oradour-sur-Glane is well worth the visit. We were there in 2012.

In June 1944 the French Resistance in that area had been warned of the D-Day landings and so stepped up their actions to delay the movement of German SS armoured divisions to Normandy. Partisans blew up railway bridges and German soldiers were killed. In another local Resistance action a German officer, a personal friend of an SS commandant, was taken prisoner.

On 10 June 1944, four days after the allied invasion, Hitler's elite Waffen-SS army sought retaliation and Oradour-sur-Glane became their target. The village was sealed off as the SS men moved in.

The men in the village were separated from the women and children. The men were led to six barns and sheds, where machine guns were already in place. SS soldiers began firing their machine guns. Most of the men were wounded in the legs and then burned alive when every building in the village was set on fire.

The women and children were barricaded into the church and the church was then set on fire. Those who tried to escape were shot.

The once idyllic village of Oradour-sur-Glane was completely destroyed and 642 men, women and children were massacred by German soldiers.

General de Gaulle, who at that time was leader of the free French, decreed that the ruins be left as a memorial and a reminder of one of the worst war crimes committed by the German army in World War II. And so the ruins of the martyred village have remained as they were in June 1944.

It was a very emotional experience to walk through the ruined village knowing what horrors took place on that fateful day. It is a place that we will never forget.

Thanks @Rob and Val ,
I had read most of that in my research , but you put it more clearly.
Very moving when walking around and studying the ruins, only one thing I noticed ,was in the church the confession box was still there intact but as it was made of wood and the place had been burnt and in ruins , it looked odd.
Moved on today to Uzerche aire by an old station, about 15 moho's here right above the river and opposite an old chateau , weather dry but cloudy with some sun , hooray !!!
