My diary says its Monday 4th May but the government website says its Friday 8th May.
What do you think?

I must be going doolally then. I always thought the first May holiday was always a Monday and as that is what my diary says I believed them!

It got moved after most calendars, diaries and such like were already sent to print.

Related to 75th Anniversary of VE day

Oh - I missed it all then!

Moved it this year, and thousands of calendars are wrong.

Moved to a Different Date in 2020
In 2020, the Early May Bank Holiday will be moved to Friday, May 8 to coincide with Victory in Europe Day, or VE Day, which marks the 75th anniversary of the formal end of World War II. It will be the first day of a long weekend featuring numerous commemorative events across the country.
The Bank Holiday had also been moved from May 1 to May 8 in 1995, to commemorate the 50th VE Day.

Maybe we should always have May 8 as a bank holiday. We were captivated by the VE day event in a French town some years ago. There were several period vehicles and artefacts/costume displays in the town square. At 11am, I think it was, there was a parade from the town hall to the war memorial. Part way through the proceedings four children stood, one at each face of the monument, and read out the names of the Allied Service Men commemorated there. It was very moving.

If we did that over here all the snowflakes and lefties would all say we were just glorifying war no doubt.

Typical UK Though. Cannot even give a "Holiday", for such an important event they have to move another. Mean barstewards.

May 1 holiday on May 1 and May 8 holiday on May 8 each and every year, why does Britain have to make life so complicated?

Pead a lot of folks off that has, lots have booked events for the Monday to find it’s been moved.
Apparently it was proposed a few years ago.
