Fitted a Maxxair last summer.
Thought I would use it as a ventilator during the winter , as the fan cowl can be open without the fan running.
I know of course that they are designed to be used in rain and the shape of the cowl prevents rain entering whilst providing an airway.
I think if I am correct, even closed , there is still a trickle vent formed in this position.

I shall keep an eye on it but I wonder how many other Maxxair users do this in winter?
TIA

I try with our Dometic fan but the bl—-y rain sensor keeps putting it down, the instructions say you can wind it up manually (a little bit would do) and this overrides the sensor (y) but it doesn't(n) been replaced once on warranty but the service guy did say "it won't last long.

Also h ave a Maxxfan. Leave it open at night when in van and so far no rain has got in. It has trickle vent when shut, just like other roof lights. A good check is to hold your hands up there to feel for drafts

You can leave the Maxxfan fully open in rain and no water will come in as the vents are under the cowl. They are also trickle vents, so don’t seal and allow air circulation even in the closed position, which I personally dislike.

Our Maxxfan doesn’t let water in open or closed, even in a 70MPH Atlantic storm on the Isle of Barra last year. It’s situated over our lounge/bed area so great for fresh air without drafts at night closed down in winter and open in summer.

Slightly off piste.
I’ve made a couple of foams pads for my Maxxfans, they reduce noise on long motorway journeys but would also be useful for keeping the heat in should you wish.

Strange one Martin 🤔 we can override our one using the remote.

You must have a fancy one Steve, ours doesn't have a remote, to be fair they all seemed to be different even on the same models, there was something funny with Roberts but I can't remember exactly but Premium fitted him a Maxxair instead.

In the torrential rain and high winds we had lately there was a bit of splash coming in the open maxxfan. Normal rain doesn't though and we were back on to the wind.
