My licence allows me to drive a 7 tonner, but my log book doesn't mention any weight at all.

Looking at the plate under the bonnet, it gives four different weights, the engine code and bodywork version number. Using the bodywork code I deduce that I have a medium wheelbase, (10 version ? ) 2500DS. In turn, there are several columns with weights with the heading '2500DS' Unfortunately the '10version' weights are completely different from those on the plate. :?

The weights on the plate are:-
3200 KG
4800 KG
1-1650 KG
2-1750 KG

As the last two figures correspond with the axle weights given for the '14 version' I guess that is actually what I have, so are the other two figures, the unladen weight, and the maximum allowed weight?

Your max fully laden weight is 3200kg so any licence will allow you to drive it. The total with a trailer is 4800kg

Is that a Fiat plate your looking at or the Autotrail one,as the 'convertor' the Autotrail one is the one you need,it could be anywhere depending on the age of the van.Sometimes beside the Fiat one, sometimes in the cupboard with the Sargent unit.

That's the Fiat plate.

Log book:-
Revenue weight blank
Max permissible weight blank
Mass in service blank
Technical permissible maximum towable mass of trailer blank

I really would have thought that it was the base vehicle that determined how much it's max weight could be. :S

It is.....until it's been converted.
It's called 2nd build weight and refers to the weight AFTER conversion which could be less or more than the 3200kg.
If it's on an Alko chassis that is the 2nd build and the above is the 3rd build.
DVLA will have all the details on record but some desk jockey forgot to put it all on the V5.

Max gross weight on that plate is 3200kg, 4800kg is the train weight ie motorhome plus trailer.
Last two figures are the axle weights. You must not exceed any of these weights.
