In today’s Times there is an article entitled: “panic spreads among Marmite lovers as supplies dwindle”. I immediately recalled a thread where some funsters were worrying about getting their fix of Marmite and Ketchup as they travelled abroad. Could it be they are the cause of the shortage? Stocking up in a panic 😂🤣?

Please confirm this is a late April Fools post! 🤯

I’ll check out stocks at Morrisons tomorrow and let you know lol

Well yesterday at morrisons
There wernt none
But they had vegimite
Which i understand is a substitute
From our cousins in
Australia ??!!!!! :whistle2:  :hi5:

It's evidently linked to the reduction of yeast output from breweries. So come on, Funsters, don't slacken now: drink more beer for Marmite and Britain! :drink: 🇬🇧

I have a mate who's addicted to Marmite, he was aware of the shortage a few weeks ago so he got some ordered. This was his celebratory photo when it arrived, I kid you not.

Glad I got a stock :)

I was expecting a shortage last year after the pubs got closed down. I believe it is still made from the byproducts of making beer?

Nope! It’s there in black & white. Apparently iit is due to a shortage of yeast as breweries , who supply the yeast, are not brewing beer.

apparently so. Not something I knew before reading the article.

The first time we visited managements family in Brisbane we had to take Polo mints and Marmite for them. They could only get Vegimite and the Australian mints had no bite to them.
Personally I can’t stand the stuff. It reminds me of the yeast tablets and multivitamins we we were given as kids.

It’s true, there really have been shortages. We get through quite a bit of it but all should be well now that lockdown is ending and pubs are opening apparently.

Most of the yeast comes from Robinsons in Stockport due to pubs shut no yeast no beer no marmite! :tmi:

I got the last one in our Tesco today.... Others were hunting for jars too.

Bet there is some greedy opportunist so & so advertising it on flea bay for £25, maybe more!, just as they did when we had the bog roll shortage.

Really don't understand how anyone can like the stuff, the rest of my family do - weird.
I really don't see the pleasure in swollen lips & a sore tongue.

Morrisons own Yeast Extract is nicer than modern Marmite so panic not. Do you remember the good old days when Marmite was thick and black, before they started adding things to make it more spreadable? It tasted nicer. The own brand Yeast Extracts taste like Marmite used to, not like the runny stuff with celery extract that Marmite now produces.

What else would I put on my toast at breakfast time? Each to his own I guess.

Maybe you're allergic. It doesn't do that to me or anyone else i know!

Use it in cooking, as a stock.
Mix with peanut butter, add a bit of olive oil to keep it semi solid, great on a picnic/walk, on bread, or oat crackers.
Full of b vitamins.

It’s like the ginger nuts saga all over again...
