Early June my parents will fly out to Malaga to spend a week with us. Have been to Seville but wanted to try Granada. Can't visit Alahambra as we'll have our dog with us.
Any recommendations for places to visit (with not too daunting roads as it will be our first trip) in that part of Andalusia are very welcome.
Extra points for nice lakes so the dog can cool off 😎 Not loads of mutt-friendly beaches unfortunately

Ronda is nice up over the hills above Malaga. The road is quite good, although it obviously climbs and descends the other side, there are no nasty bends to negotiate. It will be cooler higher up as well, although not sure if there are any lakes, but there is a reservoir beyond Ronda towards Sevilla.

Antequera and El Torcal nature reserve are quite interesting places to visit.
I'll second Ronda. Also Mijas is well worth a visit.
Orange square in Marbella is also very pleasant for a meal.
Peurto Banus to wander around looking at the luxury yachts, expensive to eat and drink.

We would recommend taking a look at the small campsite overlooking Lake Vinuela, about 25mins inland from Vélez Malaga. There is also a good restaurant on site.

I know you are aiming for Granada area, but if you need a day or two in malaga the aire at Malaga Beach is actually right on the beach, which is a dog friendly one. The town of La Cala del Moral is very Spanish with quite a few bars and restaurants, and a bus service into Malaga every 20 mins. Also a bike track into Malaga which is a nice coastal walk.
