How can you tell if the Union Flag is up the right way or not when there is no flagstaff ?

The broad white stripe is should be upper left. Check Google for the correct way to fly the Union Flag. Also if the Union flag is depicted on an aircraft, the flag is always displayed with the broad white strip towards the front of the aircraft as it would be on a flag staff.

I believe you always view as if the staff is on the left

Ahhh, so what you meant was “ the broad white strip should be uppermost on the side adjacent to the flagstaff”, which brings me back to my query -
How can you tell if the Union Flag is up the right way or not when there is no flagstaff ?!

It is the same picture as above at Buckingham Palace, no way of knowing if it is the right way up or not without sight of a flagstaff

I thought that too at first. But when you think about it, If they attached the flag to a small flag pole anywhere on the bike . Then, when the bike is moving it would fly just like the image on the tank.

Then, when the bike is moving it would fly just like the image on the tank.

Well, looking at the video again, I see I'm wrong,

when the bike is moving (the pole will be forward of the flag) it is flying upside down.
