Just connected to EHC and no power,,all trips flipped in van..Main won't reset..No 230 volt switched on in van other than charger. Thinking that must be problem. Any one with alternative idea.I have tried two hook up cables and two EHC sockets. If I disconnect main supply to charger will 12 volt system still operate OK? Thanks in advance.BUSBY.

Can you not just turn the charger off?

How about removing the fuse for the charger then plugging into EHU again.

No,,have had that before and it's never tripped.Reckon it's the lcd unit..BUSBY.,

Ooooh, that's gonna cost you.
if you can, remove the RCD and try to find an electrical wholesaler, usually on industrial estates, and show them... City electric etc. They should have a suitable RCD in stock far cheaper than a dealers inflated prices.

In France at the moment on route to Spain..Will have to manage without electricity and rely on solar and gas.😄BUSBY..

Hi Busby look for an auto electrician in France I don't think a campingcar dealer will have a unit but they may be able to guide you.

When you say LCD mains switch what exactly do you mean? LCD display panel? RCD mains switch? or something else?

Consumer unit with main on off trip plus two smaller trips.

Had electrician out this morning,,changed the main trip, still trips the van or the post when cable is plugged in..Only equipment using 230 volt on van is charger which he temporarily disconnected,,still tripped..After an hour of checking he said it was beyond him..Looks like we will have to manage on solar and gas until we get home..bugger.BUSBY.

Is it a faulty cable, can you try a different one?

Have done and a different hook up socket. He tested both my hook up cables,,nothing wrong.BUSBY.

I would disconnect everything from the trips live, neutrals and earth remembering where every thing is and if the trips still does not activate then the issue is with the lead used from the post to van or the cable from the connection point outside to the RCD.

If the trip works re attach each cable one by one until fault is found.

If the trips been replaced and the charger disconnected fully it has to be a cable issue and a test can be carried out using a mega.

Thanks realist but a bit beyond my arthritic fingers..Consumer unit is in a very confined cupboard on the floor. Will have to manage until we get home.Have modified an extension lead so now have a mains socket in van to boil the kettle and trickle charge leisure battery if needed.

They are tight working spaces that’s for sure but I have a feeling it’s water ingress in a feed/cable somewhere.

Best wishes.

I had this with Alde heater, elements leaking to earth. Alde took it all apart declared it fixed charged me £180. Next time I used it, guess what? Tripped again. So I removed the earth wire and it was fine. It's a new Alde unit next time I'm in the UK with the van.

Great lateral thinking. Would it possible to remove the existing live feed from the EHU socket, and connect your temporary live feed? That would rule out any fault from the post to the consumer unit.

I remember someone on here had a problem where water was leaking from a sink tap under the kitchen sink onto the mains inlet on the inside. That caused the RCD to trip.

My garage found the fault when we returned home.My fault. In the summer I moved the TV bracket and had put a screw into a wire to a power socket..Straight between earth and live..BUSBY...
