Ducato base 2008, driving home last night & noticed that on main beam I get the blue indication on dash but no change from dipped beam! Same if I try a quick flash with stalk, suppose it's possible both bulbs have blown but seems a bit odd? Peeing down with rain at moment so haven't checked bulbs, is there any other likely explanation?

Quite possible often when one bulb fails the other one fails shortly after. Otherwise it could be the relay.

Hmm, thanks. Hadn't considered relay? would the main beam light still come on if that had failed?

When the rain stops (if it ever does!) check the plugs holding the bulbs first in case one has come loose; could cause both to "fail". Otherwise I'd suspect bulbs - had it happen to me once, I watched a M/B light blow and a few seconds later so did the other.

As you're getting the blue dash light I'd say it has to be downstream of the relay.

But I could be wrong of course!

As it's 2008 I assume it's an X250 normally if a bulb fails you should have a bulb failure light on the dash.

At least your blue high beam warning light still works. When the garage phoned me saying my Santa Fe had failed its Mot because of two lights not working I nearly told them to get on with it. Aftersales explained it would cost £7 to renew a side light and £1900 to sort out the high beam warning light. Yes that's what I thought.

Or it could be the actual "stalk" which is what Paul Badknee has bodged up repaired a couple of times ?

Could be as simple as one bulb blew god knows how long ago and you never noticed but now the other has gone it is plainly obvious you have no high beam.
Pull a bulb, check for power at the correct pin and / or look inside the bulb for failed filaments and go from there.

Stopped raining, so update. Does seem that both bulbs have failed, ordered a pair of Nightbreaker & will report back when fitted., thanks for advice.

Hi all
Just a point about high beam lights not that is relevant but here goes.
On my 1988 Fiat Ducato the high beam fails every winter but the high beam light on the dash still works. Obviously I have a high beam damp fault but weird how the high beam light on the dash still works.
Can't offer any advise on the faults you have, but interesting to find out the result.
MOT soon hope my lights behave.

Got me interested in a pair of Nightbreakers now.
Don't drive in the dark much with the MH but when I have the lights are a bit pathetic.

Just checking for a 2008 X250 they appear to be H7's ?
haven't got the MH with me as I write , are they separate dip and main bulbs?

TIA

Interestingly and I suppose quite logically, Nightbreakers do not offer the same service life as a standard bulb.
However if you don't do much night driving this will not be a serious problem.

Yes, individual for main and dipped. Actually, when you select main beam, both sets of lights come on - well they do on mine, 2007 X250

How come the bulb failure light didn't come on then?

As you don't do much driving in the dark they will be fine, anyone who does a lot of night driving don't bother they don't last long. ( I use to sell them often got complaints about short life.)

UPDATE: It's stopped raining for a bit so: Checked both bulbs & they are OK ? All connections seem good. Still getting the blue main beam light when m/b selected???? I've also checked both m/b fuses. However, can't hear a relay clicking??????????????
