Can you help with this article? Any tips about travelling with your dog. Pictures of your dogs when travelling and their favourite place to lounge when on site? Thanks in anticipation (y)

Mine love to travel, in fact, they don't want to get out of the van when we get home!

The passport system is straightforward, vets in Spain are way cheaper than the UK, I paid about 180 euro's for X-rays and meds in Sapin that I was quoted £6-700 for in the UK.

Get about by bus....Lucky he had his pocket money on him, otherwise he would of had to make his own way :D. Mac (the dog) sees all of the motor home as a glorified bed or place to sit. Travels really well in general. Must love the van as when on walks from home his tail wags insanely and he looks at you like 'where we off too this time then?'

I have just realised, that is truly an A - Z of our travels, Aberdaron in Wales to Zermatt in Switzerland :D:D

Think Jim is after someone writing an article on taking your dog with you in the m/h.

I'll have a think but there are far more knowledgeable folk around on this subject than me.

Casper would willingly write an article, but his spelling is rubbish so you will have to have a picture of him relaxing on holiday.

Our boxer's favourite place when on a site or Aires, is sat in the drivers seat people watching. But if we are near a beach we can be there all day.

We started using a folding metal cage or crate when travelling but it took up too much space even when folded up. So we changed to a travelling harness attached to a secure anchor point I fitted. Cushions optional.

One advantage of the crate was it was very easy to hang the Endless Breeze fan on it but with a bit of ingenuity we can secure the fan somewhere it can blow on the dog. This isn't necessary very often but when temperatures were touching forty degrees in France recently it made a difference.

Try to stick to the same routine each day. Our dog is used to his longest walk after lunch so where possible we do the same but this isn't always possible if you need to travel far or sensible when it is very hot.

But having a routine for everything helps. For example the dog should have its own space even if has to change at night. Ours knows it sleeps at night in a different place to where he snoozes during the day but he's used to this and knows where to go.

If you leave the dog in the vehicle in high temperatures close all the blinds and open all small roof vents and turn on the extractor fan. Leave water out of course and if you don't know how hot it's going to get inside the vehicle return quickly the first few times until you have an idea how long you can leave the animal. You should be safe for a typical visit to a supermarket but be very careful if your absence is more extended. I can't advise leaving a dog unattended while you get a bus into the town - take it with you or don't go until the weather is cooler.

Washing dogs while away is easier if you bring a garden spray attachment you can fit on the end of your hose. A small number of campsites have dog washing points but these are rare and taking your dog into the showers is not a popular option with your fellow campers.

Check for ticks even if you are using tick repellents such as Advantix or one of the treated collars. We have removed up to a dozen ticks off our dog in one day in Spain even though he was being treated with Advantix every 28 days as recommended by the vet. We now treat the dog every 21 days which works much better. The manufacturers of the drug state themselves for some species of tick treatment more often than 28 days is required.

Archie loves the van, even though he hates the car. We think it’s because we spent a few days in the van on the drive figuring out how everything worked, so it feels safer to him (either that or nothing good comes of going on the car. It’s either the vet and her scary needles, or the groomer and her even scarier lavender spray!)
