New to Camper Van ownership, been a caravaner & camper for the past 25+ years.

Interested to know what magazines people rate. And what the differences are before subscribing to one.

There’s a couple titles that seem to come from the same publisher so interested to know what the differences are i.e. MMM, Practical Campervan.

Its a no brainier really. Best one around without a shadow of a doubt.

None of them really, they are full of advertorials masquerading as journalism, the adverts are sometimes interesting. But forums and blogs I find are more relevant and reliable.

Mind I do still buy MMM occasionally, generally regret it as well. The subscription offers at the shows are sometimes worthwhile if you are wanting to sign up.

Ah yes I think have a subscription for the Forum, but not sure if that covers the magazine?
Wandered if I was missing out elsewhere.

If you subscribe to the MMM digital version, you get the last 12 back-issues free (unless that offer has now been withdrawn).

PS. You could of course join Carthago Owners UK for £10 per year. They have a very active closed Facebook section where you can ask questions. Quite a few members have the PVC conversion.

I have been subscribing to MMM since 2002,,its what converted me from tugging to a motorhome. Some excellent travel blogs in it..I look forward to it every month.BUSBY.

Imo the travel blogs are the only part worth reading. Makes it expensive. Plenty of travel info on here!
The rest of it is tosh, especially the moho “reviews”

I've recently cancelled my subscriptions to MMM and Practical Motorhome as I've found they tend to publish the same articles, often at the same time or at least within an issue. Once upon a time I found most of the content interesting and useful but being away now for longer periods I cannot get interested in going through the piles of mags waiting when I get home again (CMC, NT, English Heritage, RD are others I get).

I've tried the on-line versions but, although I'm always reading on Kindle, I cannot seem to get on with them on PC, laptop or even a tablet. And don't even think about trying the smartphone!

Nowadays I get my info here on the forum and enjoy the more down-to-earth (with less ads) MHF Mag.

A newbie, however, might find at least one useful to get you going and then I'd guess MMM is probably the best especially if you can latch on to one of their deals. PM gives out "free" gifts with new subscriptions but that's really only useful if you happen to need that particular gift (I got a set of Milenco Quatros plus bag which was an excellent deal at the time).

Last year I took out the £5 for the first 5 issues of MMM, then cancelled the subscriptions. By issue 5 I’d found other ways to do my research (on here being the main one), and got fed up with trawling through the endless ad’s. I used to subscribe to two motorcycle magazines, but as said before about Motorhome magazines, articles were duplicated and ad’s were endless.

I found them helpful, but soon found other sources of information.

I know the publishers need the revenue from ad’s to stay afloat........ (y)

These links from Jim should work for the brilliant Motorhome Fun Magazine

Apple users can download the App/Mag here
Android users here
Or on a Laptop or Desktop you can read it here

I reckon you can find anything you want - and a lot that you don't!-on here.
If you can't find it use the 'search' facility or just ask.

I found it invaluable when 1st starting MHoming and still do now.

Appreciate the replies. Have downloaded the MHF mag, will have a read.
Is the subscription voluntary, or do you get different content by paying.
I’m already a paid up member of the Forum if that makes any difference.

The full magazine content is free.

Hi

The magazine is a free club magazine. It is on the App Store for ease of delivery. Trouble is, Apple make a whacking commission out of sales so do not allow free magazines. If they did, they would have to do all the hosting and delivery for nothing. So they insist we set a price so they can take a cut. We set the minimum price. However a quirk of their system is they allow you to have free issues. To date you will note all our issues have been free.

Once you open the app, ignore the subscribe button and just download the mags (y)

Cheers

I use Readly which is £7.99 a momth but there are loads of mags on there covering all sorts of subjects this includes practical motorhome. I also use Pocketmags which costs £1.99 a month for MMM magazine.

The only one I care to read is
Motorhome Funs mag.
Great read and unbiased imho

As we are new to motorhoming, we took advantage of one of the MMM offers. We also tried the Campervan mag on a £5 offer but soon discontinued that. We are still subscribing to the MMM and will do for a little longer as there are some interesting things in there for us as newbies, but like others say, this forum is also a huge source of information, with the benefit of being able to ask quite specific questions and receive answers. MHF mag also a brilliant read. I would say try it on an offer and make up your own mind as everyones opinions and needs are different.

We found MMM useful before and after we bought our first motorhome, there are some good articles re travelling abroad, and also checked out what dealers there are (so we could look on line to see current stock) as living up in the Highlands we don't have many.

[/QUOTE I always thought Practical Motorhome was very inferior to MMM. BUSBY.

Lots of good info in Jim's Mag. Well worth the subscription to this site to get it.

I've always enjoyed magazines, and still do. I agree, however, they are very 'samey' but I usually find something of interest, and the ads are occasionally useful. I have to say, the MHF magazine is brilliant and I can only but admire the effort that goes in to it.
Incidentally, I joined the Motorhome Madness FB group, purely to get the 5% discount at Comfort. The amount of misleading, dangerous and mostly simply wrong information on there is frightening, particularly as it's mostly addressed to newcomers.
