Hi

I have tried to upload a picture to "Photo of the day" using a MacBook Air thats about 18 months old.

As I could not manage it I messaged Jim and he suggested trying another browser. I have turned the MacBook Air off and on again and tried using Safari, Chrome and Firefox and in all instances I get the same Error message that the file is too big.

I have then used my Old PC and uploaded the same picture with no problem using Firefox.

I think this is the first time I have tried to do it using the MacBook Air.

Any ideas what the problem may be??? Other than I am using an Apple.

10Mb seems to be the upper file size limit. How did you get the image onto the PC? If you emailed it to yourself the email may have shrunk the file. :)

If it says the file is too big the sensible thing to do would to reduce it.
When I upload photos I nearly always reduce them to 1024 X 768 gives a file size a fraction of the original and saves loads of data.

Hi

The file size is 386kb which is smaller than some of the heading file sizes according to Jim.

Bit of a long shot but do you have Safari set to block pop-up windows? The control is in preferences/security and the box should not be checked.

Hi

I have now opened the Email I sent with Picture on on my MacBook. I have then Saved the attachment to Photos. I have then exported it to my Photo files where it is now 27kb and that will load to the website.

I had saved the photo for the Web in Adobe Photoshop Elements.

Puzzling.

I have checked , see what I did there, and I have now unchecked the box as you suggest. The error message still appears.

Thank You

as has been said.. image size is too big..

it has absolutely nothing to do with the Mac .. or browser..

Jim is aware of the size of the picture and says it should be no problem.

Thanks Jim

I have tried and I can, using the MacBook Air and Safari, load the last Photo that I successfully uploaded to the 'Photo of the week' and that was 305kb. I have also tried to upload the same picture but as a 7Mb file and that is accepted as well.

All the photo's involved here are processed using the same software.

Puzzled.

I find that I can't upload from the Apple Photos program as the pictures are filed in an Apple format. Any files that I want to email or put on the internet I have to export first into a "pictures directory" in jpg format before being able to successfully upload or email.

All my photos get uploaded via a Macbook Air. I would tend to agree with another poster, check your settings. Or take a screenshot of what its telling you when it fails.

If it is only one file you can't upload there may be something wrong with it. But how big is the original on your MacBook, not the one you emailed? A 7Mb file will be fine, anything over 10Mb won't be.

This must be the latest High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIC). on IOS .. ??

It's not used on Mac OS that is running on the Airbook ..

on Mac OS they are stored as JPG .. or whatever format they were uploaded, jpg, png, tif, gif etc ..

but you are correct, you can't upload directly from the Photos Library, they have to be exported from Photos first.

9.6 mb.. local pub ..

uploaded from iMac on Safari

Thats what is frustrating. I have uploaded an old picture but it will not upload recent pictures and I can't find what is a possible reason.

Hi

May have found a possible common factor.

The pictures that I can load up were taken on my Sony A57 camera but it appears those I have taken with my newer Sony A68 will not.

Sure these are not full RAW images ? (usually you'll get a full RAW and JPEG version although it's not obvious which is which if looking on Photos), if so a 10gb image may be an issue...

To check again (sorry) where are these files stored ?

I always export from "Photos" to my desktop and then load to any forum.

They are not raw files but are the processed files converted to Jpeg in the same way as I have been doing for years. Interesting It seems that those form my Sony A68 are the problem ones not those from my Sony A57 all processed the same way. Interestly if I process the A68 pictures in Sonys Edit Software first and save as Jpeg then if I further process those files in Photoshop Elements they will Upload fine.

My photos are generally taken with my iPhone and uploaded from Apple photos on my iCloud.

I find Motorhomefun the easiest forum to upload photos too because they don’t have to be hosted elsewhere.

I believe we are currently using imagemagick to process images prior to uploading. If your camera is outputing images with slightly non standard format it may be that imagemagick is borking on them. The error returned may be unusual and xenforo is reading this as a filesize issue. This is just an educated guess.

If you can upload the file to different location in the problem format for example to dropbox and give me the link, I can do some direct tests on the file format and try to identify the issue for you.

Hi Grommet

Thank you for the offer but I don't use any location like Dropbox so cannot do as you ask. I have emailed Jim 2 examples of files that do and don't load. The smaller of the 2 is the one that says the file is to big and won't load. (n)(n)

I've looked at one of the photo you sent me and its over 68mb. They are far too big, or they are reporting themselves as being too big. Check what you are doing to resize them.
