@Wombles is a 5 night booking obligatory next year?
Hi - sorry didn't reply yesterday as we ran out of time - the booking details are as on the first post & the booking form with background info. as to why below:
For info. for anyone interested - whilst we enjoyed this rally this year we had to decide whether to simplify it for next year or not run it at all - as it evolved from 3 to 4 then 5 nights (as we discovered more about the possible things to do) then doubled in anticipated size it became & continued to be a bit of a monster admin. wise. We had heard from others that had previously run large rallies then given up that the number of messages & emails could run into thousands & thought they were exaggerating but they weren't! Whilst we liked hearing from members & to help with changes & queries it was such a volume that it affected our home & family life a bit too much.
We have many years experience volunteering including running large camping fields at events & festivals for others but this year was our first time finding a location & organising it from scratch then dealing with all the bookings. As with all the rallies & meets that we do they are all a learning curve as no two are the same & we try to improve what we do for members & for us each time. To simplify things we had to choose whether to make it a 3 or 5 night rally & as more than three quarters were booked for 4 or 5 nights last year & all the feedback we had was that members didn't have enough time to all the things they wanted to (as so much in the area) then making it a 5 night rally at an affordable price was what we decided. Another consideration was that most members had travelled a long distance & said they wouldn't have done this for a 3 night rally but being longer made it viable.
Hope our comments above haven't put anyone off running rallies as it can be great fun so long as you keep it simple & not too big as we are learning!

"Two days of fishy fun, delicious food and drink stalls from local artisan producers. With demonstration kitchens to feed your culinary curiosity, plus our live music stage to keep the party going, we’ve some great bands bringing you soul, jazz, blues, ska and a load of classic sunshine tracks.

The New Forest is blessed with some of finest artisan producers and eateries in the country and the Lymington Seafood Festival is excited to be bringing you some of the best. With around 90 food and drink stalls, all offering something a little different you can ‘graze’ your way around, sampling lots of little fishy delights.

Meat eaters, vegetarians and those with a sweet tooth need not panic either as we’ll be making sure everyone is catered for"

It's worth taking the Wightlink ferry (can use Tesco Clubcard Vouchers) across to Yarmouth just for the boat trip, a wander around the quaint town followed by sitting on the harbour or Pier eating great fish & chips & local ice cream :inlove:

For those that enjoy walking you can get a bus from Yarmouth to The Needles - although there is a theme park style tourist part http://www.theneedles.co.uk/ with glass blowing, sand & sweet shops, fairground rides & chairlift there is also the walk up to the National Trust headland https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/the-needles-old-battery-and-new-battery with fantastic views of Alum bay & all around even if you don't go into the Old Battery part with tea rooms with a view of The Needles where you have to pay - the New Battery part is free but was closed when we visited late in the day.

Alum Bay glass http://www.alumbayglass.co.uk/index.php is made there that you can buy:

Some attractive large items but not all expensive as also many smaller more affordable items so ideal place to buy a souvenir or gift. We were tempted but limit ourselves to one item per trip (or the house would be full!) & had already bought ours at the Donkey Sanctuary as profits help keep it going.

It's a steep walk to the beach with its different coloured sands at Alum Bay:

Alternatively there's the chairlift:

You can go down & back up in one go or get off at the bottom to walk along the beach.
