I renewed our motorhome insurance through AIB yesterday. The previous underwriters were Aviva but AIB said a better deal was available through LV which also gave NCD protection. The premium was competitive so I took it out. Checking through the policy wording today I realised the windscreen replacement was only covered for £600. Back to AIB today and they are cancelling the policy and renewing with Aviva with a refund as Aviva do not do NCD protection. Would have thought the would have known the windscreen cover was too low for a motorhome. Anyone else insured with LV

After reading this I cslled LV today and they said they repair any windscreen with an excess of £95 so i am baffled and worried . Another poster said there was a max of £5000 repatriation and today LV SAID they repatriate any vehicle as long as the repatriation fee is less than the vehicle value ! So I am going to write tomorrow and ask fir the answers in writing

I have NCD protection on my present policy which is with Comfort but underwritten by Aviva. It a funny world in the insurance game. !!

I got a quote off LV a couple of years ago and they did not cover anything in the van apart from £500 for the radio/ICE. Their caravan policies covered items in the caravan. Strange lot.

Having just found out that the new screen on our A Class Flair is going to cost over £5,000 I can also confirm that LV have a maximum payout of £600. An expensive and painful lesson in our first year of Motorhoming! Be aware that windscreen claims are on on the rise, probably due to the terrible state of some of our roads.

I would contact Autoglass and ask the price, I wouldn’t think it would anywhere near the cost of an A class screen, so you maybe ok at £600

Thanks Manic, that is an Autoglass price. We also got a price from a N&B dealer to see if it was cheaper to do direct but similar price. We might be able to buy the screen direct from N&B in Germany but then we have to get it back to UK for someone else to fit and that’s fraught with danger. So unless anyone knows of a going cheap Flair windscreen we are a bit stuffed (to use a technical term).

We are with LV= and our windscreen is covered up to the value of the vehicle with a £95 excess.

“Windscreen and window glass - you're covered for damage to the windscreen or window glass including sun-roofs. ADAS recalibration costs and any resultant scratching of the bodywork. We may use a suitable replacement not supplied by the original manufacturer but it will be of a similar quality. Your premium may increase following a claim, but as long as there's no other loss or damage - your NCD won't be affected.
We won't pay more than the market value of your car or repair or replace any windscreens or windows not made of glass.”

Only buy LV insurance direct otherwise you get the highway policy, a watered down version.

I had to make a windscreen claim with LV on my Mercedes car. At first we thought it would be a simple repair, but once the technician came out that was not the case, a new windscreen was needed. The technician said he was going to speak to LV because, as the car was 4 years old, they normally only authorise a non- factory replacement, but because of the car, he was going to advise them to put a Mercedes branded screen in. LV agreed this no problem and the job was done. No additional excess to pay. We now have all out cars and C-class motorhome with them. As a post above said, it is much better to speak to insurers as opposed to going through the website. Particularly so with LV as their system seems to have trouble identifying a MH. I have found LV spot on in all my dealings over the last three years.

I’m glad for you that you have had a good experience with LV. I suspect that our experience is largely due to not recognising that there is a difference between LV and LV Highway; perhaps understandable as their Logo is the same.

When researching insurance we checked on the LV.com website under ‘Motorhome Insurance‘ and it clearly said (and still does today) that they cover windscreens up to the value of the Motorhome.
To complicate the story, a renewal quotation from the Camping & Motorhome Club in the last few days, which includes unlimited windscreen cover, is with LV Highway!
So to clarify, LV= does provide unlimited windscreen cover and LV Highway does sometimes and not others; clear as mud!

I was with the Insurance Factory, who claim to be motorhome insurance specialists. When taking out the policy I asked them this is an A class motorhome is my windscreen fully covered. The reply was I am fully covered less my excess. Small stone chipped the windscreen before I could stop 100 mm crack. So new windscreen required. Phone up told yes we will arrange it you just have to pay your excess. £95. Got a phone call from Auto Windscreens (Part of the same group) telling me they had arranged for Autoglaze to carry out the replacement. Got a phone call from them requesting £2476. Having got up off the floor I asked why so much. Turns out I was (fully) covered by Insurance factory with Markerstudy but only up to their maximum which is £500. Many phone calls they increased their max to £1000,so I had to fork out £1976 before they would order my windscreen. Talk about a rip off. Markerstudy said it was not their fault but blamed the broker, the Broker blamed me for not reading the small print. When the quote was emailed to me the list covered where it said windscreen had a tick. Only after you have paid the premium and get the documents is there any mention of the limits. Having asked on the phone was the windscreen fully covered I only printed out the certificate.

Just a tip for anyone wanting to use LV for insurance. If you join Boundless, currently £32 pa. you will get good discounts on the LV vehicle insurance and breakdown cover plus Motor Legal Expenses at no addition cost. Boundless also provide good discounts on a host of other things.
