Hi all,
We have had a very good quote from LV to insure our Motorhome. We are currently with NFU and price has increased considerably over the last two years. Has anyone had any experience with claims with LV? We currently have multi car policy with them and the Motorhome would be added to it.

I have asked the same question in the post of
Insurance conundrum

Yes I have seen that but there doesn’t seem to be any response. We have never claimed with LV but in our experience NFU are very good

When I checked LV for a quote ,it appeared to be a good price on the face of it but when I checked the details there were extras for everything ,in the end the quote was less competitive with my current insurer and a few others. (y) do just do a check

I have been a client of LV for many years. I have mostly found them agreeable and always start with LV if seeking a new quote. They tend to be a little more expensive than quite a few others. At the moment I only insure the house with them.
I have not had to claim for quite a few years (last time for a damaged laptop about 4 years ago) but they are easy to deal with and settled amicably.
I think they have only been insuring motorhomes for a few years, I recall asking them for a quote some years back and being told they are not in that market. Then I discovered recently they were; consequently I got a quote for my recent renewal and they were actually a little cheaper than AIB. I stuck with AIB as they discounted a bit to match the LV quote. It was a marginal decision though, the main decider being AIB's lack of transparancy over NCB as I couldn't be faffed to try and get proof out of them. Next year might be different if LV remain this competitive.

I've just had my quote from Comfort for my 2019 Burstner 690G at £341 It was £355 last year so I'm happy with that.
I will need to add on the European breakdown cover now that the Fiat warranty has run out after two years.
Breakdown cover is usually around £65

When I tried to insure through LV a few years ago (5ish) they did not cover any of the contents apart from £500 for your radio. This contrasts with their caravan insurance which does cover contents. They also only looked at the vehicle as the basis of the insurance rather than the converter. Didn't fit my requirements and does not appear to be inline with other insurers but as ever DYOR.

Had a travel insurance claim with LV when we got stuck in New Zealand.
Paid for flights and additional hotels etc, Within a week of submitting the paperwork.

We've used LV for a few years now and they have proved to offer excellent service. In 2016 I suffered a heart attack in the South of France. They were truly professional in handling my operations. Again in 2019 my wife launched herself at the pavement in Spain. They handled the ambulance, hospital and everything relating to her care. We wouldn't have our travel insurance with anyone else after these experiences and the level of care given.

LV insurance - strange response!

Ok briefly sped through the posts. AND no axe to grind or benefit from LV as when insurance due will do the rounds to find the best deal for the cover I want.

So some 3th party companies offer insurance with LV, the T&C's for these policies are NOT the same as those offered by LV themselves.

As said on a previous post (to busy to find ATM) LV motorhome insurance is significantly cheaper than others.... BUT... when you get your quote and before you sign up note date, time, agent your speaking to and make sure you mention what you're insuring. Motorhome value xyz, has extras. W,H,A,T. include everything you can think of make sure you mention at least twice its current value and the killer Q before handing over any cash "IS ALL I've listed/explained COVERED IN MY INSURANCE POLICY" if they say yes happy days if they say no then back to the search.

Once asked LV if I was insured to drive my car in Europe. After their positive response I set off through France. After being involved in a 11 car pile up and waiting on the phone for over half an hour their response was "sorry you're only 3rd party" and basically put the phone down on me. My wife asked LV the same question prior to driving over to meet me. Girl told her she was fully comp abroad... she wasn't. At the time back in 2014 it was £25 extra.

I wont go near LV with a barge pole.

£326 from Comfort fully comp with full European breakdown and £5000 personal belongings. The only thing they wanted was a copy of the tracker installation cert' as it's a Ford.

I am also looking for competitive Motorhome insurance. Looking online and some sites cannot find my vehicle when I input the registration? Its a 2017 Pilote and has never had a private plate.
Anyone else experienced this?

Oh and LV have provided a very competitive quote, albeit on a Fiat chassis motorcaravan with the registration mark (they couldn’t find it on their database either) as they referred to it. I’ve not committed to any insurer yet.

I also asked this and she said I would be covered fully comp in Europe, I thought it was too good to be true!

They record all their calls, I would be challenging them to find that call and listen to their own advice!

The law changed at the end of 2014. All fully comp policies now come with fully comp Euro cover as standard. I got my annual premium back from them, that was it.

Did you not quote that you had been told yes? and if they declined to talk or agree, then call the ombudsman.

All calls are recorded if they can't/won't releases the recording of the conversation then they are liable. Can't have it both ways!

As an aside the DVLA state that proof of posting means you were notified of "Whatever" therefore a receipt from the post office as proof of posting "Whatever" works just the same.
ALWAYS get at min a proof of posting to any important posting, assuming not sent to be signed for.

Depending on if within statue limitations would peruse maybe with one of the ambulance chasing law firms.

Saying this as it only seems right given the information you have.

Oh whilst in post have you read the comfort small print? There are a couple of items like time limited unoccupied parking away from your designated storage location, i.e. The Time you can take it out of storage and park it on your drive to prep and pack for the trip is limited. Ditto on a campsite while you do a 2 days trip elsewhere or stay with friends/family close by.

Really the nub of all insurance is to read the SMALL print, it contains most of the "We don't cover that"

Which forgive me for emphasising, when you get a quote over the phone (if on line screen shot the details) ALWAYS record who you spoke to, what date & time, any other relevant info. Store it on a bit of paper with your vehicle docs, just in case.

Now I always read the small print and never renew online, infact I don't think Comfort do online renewals. 48 hours if it's on a site. We don't use storage, it lives on our enclosed huge driveway behind a removable metal post, wheel clamp, steering lock and OBD box plugged in to its own hook up, my missus drew the line at towers and dogs!. Girl I speak to is Tracey and her name is always on the paperwork.

I Know, the issue for us was visiting far flung children and leaving the van on a recognised relatively nearby campsite unattended whilst we stay over for a couple of days.

Also in working days, Sue liked to get the MH from storage at least 3 days before departure to clean/prep and pack, When near departure time, water, scooter/bikes.

Last year insured with L&V having previously insured for some years with AIB, AIB quoted a renewal price that was ok but the T&C's for the insurance company quoted were at the time unacceptable. (don't remember why) Hence with LV. BUT again say make sure you ask is this conversation recorded. if yes.
Then, this is a MH value OMG fitted with extras H,O,W, M, U, C, H value therefore that's the total value of the vehicle to replace it!

Is that ok for the premium your quoting, if yes and quote ok, HAPPY days. If not go elsewhere.

Just saying if you don't ask you don't get.

Just by way of an update on LV following my experience over the past three days.
Monday morning - An articulated lorry decides to switch lanes into the side of my estate car. Quite a bit of damage to almost the entire passenger side. Police involved, and fortunately all captured on my front and rear dashcams.
Phoned LV on the afternoon, and after a 15 minute phone call, they said they would contact their approved repairers who would then contact me. Later on Monday afternoon the repairers called and at 9:30 the next morning the car was being inspected.
This morning I uploaded my videos to the LV site using the link they sent me in an email.
At lunchtime I received a text from them saying; "we have reviewed your video images and, as a result on the information contained on them we inform you that we will be waiving your excess and this incident will not affect your no claims bonus."
This is the third incident we have had since being with LV and the third time they have been a pleasure to deal with.
Also, a big thank you to the dashcam.
LV are one of the best companies I have come across in many a year across all fields of business.
No, I do not work for them! 🤣👍

Your warranty may run out after two years, but I thought your Fiat Camper Assist breakdown cover was valid for three years……as long as the van is serviced as per Fiat requirements. 🤔 (y)

I'm pretty sure that UK motorhome have only two years warranty including any breakdowns I've not heard that breakdown is covered for three years. Plus I've never had any Fiat service's either at around £700 a year.
I would sooner pay Comfort £65 and take my chances.
