LV must stand for Laughably Variable! Had m/home quote about 3 weeks ago via Laura at Contact Centre and she quoted Additional Premium for balance of this year, PLUS the Renewal Premium. We've changed m/home purchase plans to a Burstner, and, in view of the problems encountered futher up this thread, I was a little anxious!
LV website says to select Caravan if M/Home cover needed and [originally, 3 weeks ago] was told to ring Contact Centre so I selected 'Caravan' from the phone menu. 'I'll need to transfer you to Motor, they deal with M/home cover'. Car Team: 'just need model, is it Fiat M/Home?'. 'Has it been altered from original spec?' [Me: 'Yes, chassis stripped bare & Burstner body + fittings added'].
'Additional Premium from 15th April is Ā£55.12. Me: Annual Premium?' LV: 'We can't tell you that ...' [but you could 3 weeks ago]
As the advert says 'Ring our lovely LV people': As the advert doesn't say: 'But don't expect any logic or consistency, because, when Sunday follows Friday, you know it's Leap Year'... They really should join force with Confused.Com, if only so that the name forewarns customers what to expect!

TeamBandS Ours is insured with LV=šŸ˜Š as a Fiat Motorcaravan.
Mine too. First time insurance on a new adria value Ā£82k. Zero no claims discount and with 100k legal protection and personal accident Ā£200 excess (Ā£100 vol + Ā£100 compulsory Ā£322 which I thought was really reasonable. Purchased direct.

New to it all.
Really confused with LV.
Picking up a new Hymer in March 2022 with a total price of Ā£120,000. After lots of detailed questions we got a quote from Comfort for about Ā£850. As we have a multi-car policy with LV and, based on the good reports on the forum, thought we should try them. After a few questions, nothing to do with the value or make, other than it now being a Mercedes, we got a quote for about Ā£300.

I called LV again to check and had the same type of call as others above have reported.

Does anyone have any experience of claiming direct with LV as i don't want, at a future date, a dispute about what we have insured and the value. LV suggested we keep photos and receipts to prove the value etc.

Am new to all of this so thanks for any type of help or experiences to decide whether to go for the much cheaper premium with LV or stick to a specialist like Comfort.

Ask for a copy of their Policy Documents to read. If the wording in those documents and what is covered is correct, then you should be fully covered. (y)

The devil is always in the detail in Insurance documents.

If Comfort, who are one of the experts, are saying that the cost id Ā£850

And LV who have not even asked the two most basic questions (make and value) and quote half the amount, then I'd question anything LV say.

Here is what I said in my previous post about LV

"I got a quote from them that was very cheap for the motorhome, but was really worried about it. The vehicle was named as a Fiat Ducato car. I came to the conclusion that in the case of a serious accident I would have real problems as it did not recognise that the value was in the conversion not the base. Decided it was safer to stick with a proper dedicated motorhome policy from Comfort. More expensive, but well worth it for peace of mind."

When I bought my new "Fiat Ducato car" in 2015 I paid almost twice as much as another "Fiat Ducato car" that was on sale, because of the conversion. And it is still worth almost twice as much now. My worry is that if I have an accident all they have to do is provide me with what any 2015 Ducato car is now worth, rather than my "Fiat Ducato car". Every other motorhome policy names the converter as well as part of the description of the vehicle. LV appears not to.

Both of our cars are insured by LV and the terms of insurance were exactly the same as their "motorhome" terms.

We have had two claims in the last two years. First a windscreen in my car. It was dealt with promptly and efficiently. Second one was an argument between a Lexus and a bollard in a car park. Quite extensive damage. Again it was dealt with quickly and with no fuss. I have had other occasions to call then relating to green cards and number plate changes. All handled in the same manner.
We also have just renewed and the increase in premiums was minimal considering the Lexus prang.

Not heard from Tam today, he was talking about flying his drone so he maybe getting a free cell viewing.

So i met mike earlier and we got the vet stuff done which was good as id assumed Sunday would be closed. So ela and jade given dhppi booster.

Parked up now for the night. Probably see mike again in the morning.

Now on a different note ive been looking trying to plan ahead my return to blighty and because of this vans mot due 6th April I'd like to be home around the 23rd march .

I planned to get dogs wormed in Germany and then next morning leave Germany drive straight through belgium on to Calais and cross Chanel that evening. Tunnel prices are getting ridiculous. Cheapest is 6am till 8am and that's Ā£140 before i add the 3 dogs on
If i want evening its nearer 200 then 3 dogs on top

So i was looking at ferry instead...am i right in saying the dogs stay in the van?

Also when booking it asks how many pets before it gives price etc and when i do that i can get the ferry for Ā£140 including the dogs ...and that's a 6pm crossing which suits me better.

Ive never had them on chanel ferry before so im unsure if thats all correct ...

Does it sound right?

I have had to claim for a double glazed cab side window. It was in France and their choice of repairer could not help so I arranged the replacement and paid for it. LV said I would have to pay an additional excess as I used a " non approved"repairer. After I explained that their approved repairer could not help I told them I would only pay the policy excess. They agreed and upon receipt of proof of purchase sent a cheque almost by return. Very impressed. When you ask for insurance use the base vehicle and then tell them everything that was not factory fitted that you have subsequently fitted. Keep invoices as proof and in their words they will pay market value like all companies. That is when we would all start to discuss how much our van is worth in the unfortunate event of a total loss.

Which factory? Fiat's or Hymer's? Trouble is they do not even know it has gone through the Hymer factory because they called it a "Fiat Ducato car" on my quote

If you check the LV quotes,it's just basic comprehensive cover. The policy documents only cover EU insurance, UK breakdown,EU breakdown, legal cover etc as add on extras.they do not form part of the original basic quoted price so be careful what you sign up for.

Anything that was fitted after manufacturer maybe a better way to describe the situation.
The problem is that the only manufacturer named in the proposed policy was Fiat. There was no mention of Hymer. So, as far as LV was concerned I had a Fiat Ducato. And what would be the value of that if I wrote it off?

Adrian flux insurance is also part of LV.
adrain flux did the motorhome insurance After LV also said no.

so it seems each LV incorporated company deals with differing aspects of insurance.

now underwritten by Allianz Insurance.

Thanks for all your help, have decided to go with Comfort as the LV approach just worries me and I would be nervous about how they would handle any significant claim.

Mine is described as a 'Burstner'. No mention of the Fiat it is built on. Maybe that's why they wouldn't insure me. They'd probably didn't have a 'Burstner' on their system.

Had similar problems this week, our motorhome was described as a 4 seater campervan, my name was spelled wrong the motrhome make and model ditto, previous insurance covered protected no claim, european breakdown, and something else which escapes me at the moment, now knew why quote was a few pounds cheaper than last year, they wanted to charge for 'amending documents' ie correcting their mistaken spelling, we have emails with everything spelled correctly. We decided to give it up as a bad job, got a good quote via CMC and are going with that.
Irony is that the previous insurance was also through CMC, but renewal was not. Right and Left hand comes to mind. I am alsow ith them for the doblo, that will be interesting, it is registered as a motorhome and insured as such, wonder what they will call it on the renewal.

If you look at your CAMC policy, you may well find it is underwritten by LV. That is how mine was and why I changed.

Ok briefly sped through the posts. AND no axe to grind or benefit from LV as when insurance due will do the rounds to find the best deal for the cover I want.

So some 3th party companies offer insurance with LV, the T&C's for these policies are NOT the same as those offered by LV themselves.

As said on a previous post (to busy to find ATM) LV motorhome insurance is significantly cheaper than others.... BUT... when you get your quote and before you sign up note date, time, agent your speaking to and make sure you mention what you're insuring. Motorhome value xyz, has extras. W,H,A,T. include everything you can think of make sure you mention at least twice its current value and the killer Q before handing over any cash "IS ALL I've listed/explained COVERED IN MY INSURANCE POLICY" if they say yes happy days if they say no then back to the search.

Good Luck.
