I don’t seem to be able to find an LPG pump anywhere near me. Is reverting back to bottles straight forward? Any tips please?

Have you tried https://www.mylpg.eu/ , or asking on a local Facebook Group where to get Autogas near you in Derbyshire?

I certainly won't be going back to expensive cylinders. :(

Cheers,

Jock. :)
P.S. Just seen that it's you first post, so w2f

I would put ours back to bottles in a heart beat. Bought the van with rechargeable already in (our first van so no knowledge) always hated the rechargeable ones. We have a pipe that we can connect normal bottles. So that's what we do

Can I ask please, is that because of a lack of knowledge or confidence in the system, or due to a fear of safety?

We've not had cylinders since our caravanning days which ended in 2005, and been on a refillable system ever since. It is so much more convenient, and safer in my opinion, especially with an auto changeover valve. (y)
I do appreciate that the gush of gas when releasing the trigger at the pump, can be quite disconcerting to the end user, but I can assure you, it's not a sufficient release of gas to cause a Fire Safety related problem. I always wear gauntlet type gloves when refilling, to help protect myself from the possibility of a frost burn, a very rare occurrence here in the UK.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

It's a combination of a few things. Yes the pop didn't help first few times. But use to it now.
Filled them in uk and Spain. So a fine with that.
It's just a personal thing. Also think the places that have gas pump is going down.

Thank for all your responses; it's very helpful. We are new to motorhomes and our first one has the refill system. I have about quarter of one tank left and plans for trips coming up, so just preparing but it's disconcerting that the number of LPG pumps is so low. We found one at Asda, Spondon in Derby (don't tell anyone 😎) but they've been sold out for weeks. Another contribution to the issue is that because overseas travel has been so risky, we're all staycationing and LPG has been in high demand. Nevertheless, the filling stations are few and getting fewer from what I've read. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Asda gets topped up soon or I'm going to have to drive some big miles to get some. Many, if not all of the Exxon Mobile stations have been taken over by Esso but the ones I've phoned has dropped LPG. I just wasn't prepared for that but I'm hopeful things will work out. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again. Kev

Don't know which side of spondon you are but if you are any where near uttoxeter, the shell garage usually has some even if it says not on the gas app things.
It's on the first uttoxeter roundabout on the a50 from derby.

Sorry that should have been BP, not shell

We fill up on our way out or our way back when we go on a trip. Always been able to find somewhere en route that has some so far. Keeping it topped up means less stress in case we can’t find any on our next trip, but that hasn’t happened yet

Well here's a turnup, just did a Google for gas in uttoxeter and it came up with this, never heard of it before but it seems there be a place on the industrial estate opposite Angus McKinnon's. Might have a nosey tomorrow.

Is anyone else finding the Autogas LPG locator App hopelessly inaccurate lately?

I used a quarter of a tank of diesel travelling between 5 different garages and an LPG specialist (Cardiff Gas) and only the very last one had any stock, even though on the app they all did and I couldn't see a way to amend the status to warn others.

Cardiff gas told me they can't buy LPG and just had a 42 ton order cancelled on them!

Just got round to fitting my gaslow yesterday and there's nowhere nearby to fill it at all to test, but as some have said, there will always be somewhere on the way to wherever we go to fill up. Of course at the moment it's in high demand making it a bit more hassle but I still have about a third of a big calor and a full 6kg one as backups (y)

We have Gasit refillable bottles fitted and over the past few years have had difficulty topping up locally here in South West Wales as more and more outlets closed.
We found that the most reliable suppliers were those at the Motorway services a few pence more but reliable availability.
However because of the uncertainty of supply at present we have just returned from Spain with the Gasits removed and full Spanish Cylinders fitted instead. We hope this should do for this coming season, and we still have the Gasit as backup.
For info, the Spanish exchange cylinder prices were raised over the winter and were €15.45 - 11kg Propano and
€17.75 - 13 kg Butano at the depot in Beni.

Check out Safefill.co.uk they have a collaboration going on with Morrisons, I live in Runcorn and went to the Morrisons in St Helen’s it was about 70p/litre. About a 20 mile round trip. Less than a litre of petrol in Kathryn’s Toyota Aygo.

Cheers!

Certainly going to be an interesting year again ⚠️
There isn’t actually a shortage of LPG, but for some reason the cylinder suppliers have definitely not kept their customers supplied , now we are seeing more LPG pumps without any stock !
I don’t think the average consumer has realised yet how the supply chain has changed over the last couple of years, we are now ordering stock 6 -12 months in advance to keep products on the shelf ⚠️

So far as customers are concerned it amounts to a shortage. Whether the problem is bottle supplies or too few tanker drivers makes little difference if the LPG is not available when and where people need it. Having plenty at the refinery is little consolation if you rely on it for home heating and cooking.

Our communal LPG supply has been ok but the same is not true for some individual domestic customers.

We were in Barrow-in-Furness on Saturday and visited Morrisons just for LPG. Their price sign was lit but the pump was locked. I asked inside the kiosk and a very uninterested member of staff didn’t give a …… A wasted detour. At Brownhills now on the way home and although I was told their pump is broken I hope to get some here tomorrow.

Also experiencing difficulty in refilling my Gaslow cylinder. Had to resort this weekend to linking up my Spanish cylinder with the gaslow external filler hose. Apparently there has been a shortage, see this statement. <Broken link removed>

Stocking LPG and actually having stocks of LPG is not the same..
Very true. I just did a rough count of LPG stations in part of southern England (Filllpg). There were 70+ currently without supply and less than 40 actually had stock.
