Bee Pee?

Hi

OK, so man sitting in his car with window open when a bee flies in, land on mans hand, but intead of swatting bee, man very carefully picks the bee up and places it outside on top of his door mirror, he is very surprised when the bee speaks to him saying thank you for not killing me and flies off.

Later on a lonely moorland road the same man runs out of fuel, and sitting in his car condems his stupidity for not filling up when he had the chance. as he sits there contemplating the long walk ahead, the bee lands on his mirror, and ask what the problem is "out of fuel" the man replies, "no problem" says the bee, open your filler cap and I will be back soon, several minutes later a large swarm of bees decend on the car and one by one enter the fuel tank, as the last one comes out the bee says "start the car", lo and behold,! the car fires up straight away and keeps running, amazed the man asks the bee what happened?. "never heard of B(ee) P(ee)" says the bee?. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Well I though it was funny back in the 1950`s :ROFLMAO: but then I was still at school!!

OK back to business
can LPG engines be repaired and serviced at any garage or do you have to go to a specialist garage ?
My mechanic says hes happy to look after an LPG RV should I get one, and I am on to a good thing here, leccy hook up etc. But he says they are more trouble than thier worth !

The LPG system has to be set up by people that understand it. There is more to go wrong so it stands to reason that they are more trouble than petrol only. We ran our v8 disco on lpg for several years and the only trouble we had was an air flow meter (nothing to do with the lpg system) One thing to remember is that lpg requires a strong spark, so plugs and leads have to be GOOD.
We ran an old V8 Land Rover on LPG for a few years, the conversion was lifted from a Range Rover (by a mechanic) it ran really well but would never pass MOT on gas, every year I would get the carbs re-set to get the MOT. I found that all the people that know the system also know what it's worth, at the end of the day we use gas to save money so don't intend to spend what we save in the garage!!!!

Hi
I have run LPG 4x4s for many years and have had no problems what so ever, that said I do know that some engines have very soft alloy heads i.e. 20ltr mondeo, if these are converted they will only do about 20k before needing the head to be machined and new valves fitted, my last 4x4 was a 3.5ltr Trooper and that had done 60,000 miles on LPG no probs, and i spoke to a chap with the same car that had done 180k with no probs dont know where about in the country you are but the guys at cargas in stoke on Trent are LPGA fitters and dame good mechanics give them a call,
If your serious about buying this at least get yourself a good discount for the petrol side not working, or better still get your mechanic to look at it,he could feed petrol in at the engine. it could be nothing(dirty filter) or it could be a new CPU, also phone the engine manufacturer and ask them if they know how well the engine will convert
Good luck but remember you pays your money you makes your choice
Finally make sure the LPG system as a LPGA certificate or your insurance company proberbly won't insure it.:thumb:

AFAIK all engines that are ok for unleaded are ok for LPG, they are made with hardened valve seats to prevent the valve problems. If I were to get an older engine converted to gas I would put additive in the petrol and run on that for a few minutes when starting, the engine may not have any problems for the rest of it's life with me!!!! The worst that could happen is that you have to get the head(s) fitted with hardened valve seats, as I said AFAIK.

If your engine was designed for unleaded then it will have no trouble with lpg, I have run vehicles in UK and OZ with lpg from 4ltr six cylinder fords to rangerover V8 , they both are very happy on lpg. The fuel injected engines are much easier to manage ,as switchover both ways is instant, and you dont get the carb gasket drying out probs.
The late type systems are far more efficient, esp injected liquid lpg type.
I have seen 6 cyl ford falcon taxis with over 1mil Kms on same engine running full time lpg . Oil change intervals are longer as it is very clean compared with petrol. and much more enviro friendly .
The older systems are a bit more problematic due age , carb gaskets drying out if not started on pet and switched over when using gas to run and then back again. Old plug leads not being changed and building up resistance, setting plugs right gap , and using correct heatrange plugs to run on lpg . Early systems could lead to some overheat probs , due extra hoses needed in evap heat exchanger .
If you get lpg vehicle go thru all extra items and renew , then you should be OK from reliabilty standpoint . JMHOFE

OK Quick answer..

listen to your mechanic ..

then ask yourself why is it a REAL bargain... the seller wants rid of it quickly .. why ?
In 99.9% of cases thats precisely the answer.

If it sounds too good to be true.....then it's generally because it is.
