I’ve been quoted £900 to have a gas conversion to LPG. This includes for 2 x 11kg bottles. I’ve been informed that it would be wise to retain one Calor bottle and always have the option of two supplies. Has anyone any advice on the best option please

I agree with the above. Personally we stay mainly in the UK and I have replaced one bottle with a refillable GasIt. Easy system to fit and just over £200 for a single 6kg. £900 sounds very expensive but what do I know? If you have DIY skills, you can fit them yourself, honestly, not difficult.

The two risks to refillables is that it's getting harder to fill up in the UK. And some countries in Europe make it very hard.

If you're mainly a summer user and often on hookup, I'd be tempted to get a single. If you do long tours in Europe, I'd get a single and then swap to the local gas if I couldn't get to an LPG fill point.

But if you're a higher user, so colder trips and off-grid, then twins makes more sense. If you only go abroad for a month, you could probably fill before you leave and be fine on 2x11kg.

Just to throw a spanner. 😁
I have 2 X 10kg safefill bottles, approx £400 cost. Just fits on place of standard bottles and uses a propane pigtail. where I live no issues with LPG, several suppliers and I just top up after a trip and start off with 2 full bottles.
Have filled in Germany once on motorway. You hear tales of not being allowed to fill for both safefill and fitted systems but also tales of others having no problems. 👍

Safefill. !!!! Well I’ve never heard of this option until now. I’ve googled it’s operation and whilst some comments praise it’s safety others remind us that it’s an illegal practice! The price is a definite benefit but I’m assuming you have to open the cupboard and fit European compliant fitting before filling up and this is frowned upon ! However it’s extremely tempting but would this effect your motor insurance in the event of a incident etc ?

Our Inca came with two 11kg cylinders, never felt the need for any calor ones.
Are they fitted with external filling point or are they similar to Safefill as described by Tonka ?

Agree with the half and half camp. Ran of Calor in Scotland a few years back before the Gaslow was fitted. Called in at a commercial site to replace the Calor, no problem. There was no LPG refillable points anywhere near us, on this trip, so even if we had had the Gaslow fitted and it'd run out, it wouldn't have been any better.

People might complain that Autogas LPG is getting harder to find. They are probably right. However, I've found Calor much harder still, so I'd still go for 2 refillables.

I use the dual bottle method. Gaslow and Calor. The gaslow cost around £180 iirc and there's places that will direct fill if you have the nozzle. Just filled yesterday in fact £16 for an 11kg bottle as opposed to a 6kg Calor refill at around £25.
Mylpg.eu is a handy app to download. Just call ahead, make sure they have stock and will fill direct to bottle.

We have 2x11kg Gaslow off grid they last us about 8-12 weeks.
In UK it is getting more difficult to find LPG but France there is no problem.
Make sure you have an external fill point and NOT in the locker door.
