LPG in West Cornwall......There isn’t any! (1 Viewer)

Yesterday we drove over to the Shell garage in Hayle to top up our LPG. Last year they had LPG now they don’t.
So now the last place to get it going west is now in Redruth.
Just a warning to anyone coming down here this summer.

We use the app myLPG.eu and looking at Redruth it says £0.99 a litre surely not we only pay € 0.52 here in Spain.
Have to remember that when we visit our friends in st austell. Bob.

For those coming west on the A38, LPG is available at Haldon Hill (opposite racecourse) and at Trago Mills.

Thank you Tonka. I have been to Crane garage it’s a messy garage with cars everywhere and difficult to get to the pump. We don’t really need LPG just wanted an excuse for our first run out in a year! Also to make other people aware that if they are camping near Lands end it’s a 30 odd mile trip back to Redruth for gas.

No idea how accurate it is...

I have used this with my Flair. It is a small repair garage that does LPG conversions and other stuff. Very tight access but they are accommodating. Will shock the first time visitor, park outside and walk in to arrange access to the pump at the back in the corner!

I am a local, Opie at Redruth is usually cheap, I suggest the website is wrong, it is where we normally go. Cornwall Autogas at Longdowns near Penryn does have a pump but they are more of a repair centre than a service station and it is a b*gger to get the van anywhere near the pump.
Cornwall Services ( the new one) near Victoria has a pump so worth filling up on the way in to the area. Some LPG apps are wrong, H n Bennet in Higher Newnam Lane Truro only do bottled gas now.
Need any other info just let me know!

I might be wrong but I think Spanish lpg, has got mote butane in it , which in the British climate makes it less effective

The cheapest I've seen if coming down on the A38 Exeter-Plymouth is at Trago Mills

Turn off the A38 at signpost "Newton Abbot/Bovey Tracey @ Stover,about 10mls west of Exeter. Stover, Newton Abbot, TQ12 6JD
LPG was 69.9p last week and Shell Diesel was £1.21.9

Although they sell Shell fuel the LPG is Flogas.

If you miss that and are down as far as Saltash, at the top of the hill after the Tamar Bridge and tunnel, the garage at the far side of the next roundabout (on the left) had LPG @79.9 Lt.

Cornwall Services ( the new one) near Victoria has a pump so worth filling up on the way in to the area.

That's the one I use to top off on the way home, a good recommendation in my opinion, not the cheapest but beats wandering around Cornwall. Modern, easy access, and I think Adblue on a pump as well but I was OK with it last time and just did LPG and Diesel.

Yes it is a mixture in Europe if you buy it in mountain areas in winter it has less butane, but our refillable is for travelling we use Propane in Spain because a large bottle is only €14, plus we wouldn't go anywhere cold. Bob.

Hankridge farm Sainsbury’s near to Taunton, just paid £0.57 for gas today if coming down to Cornwall and Devon.

Basically it looks like forgetting the garages from now on and going to the FloGas/CalorGas depots. Slight inconvenience in that it is only usually office hours, but if any one is interested the FloGas depot is only 1/2 mile from Cornish Services in Roche Business Park.

Knowing them you should hardly expect them to keep the pump clear on the off chance a campervan might need to top up with gas, Sounds like an uneccessary journey during current situation.
Useful info for people who are making purposeful journey.

Thanks for that info - I was thinking the Opie one was on the industrial estate at Scorrier, so would have gone to the wrong place.
