Quite odd. You normally connect then walk away and press the pump button.

Quite right but it said "using an adaptor" .Quite possible that the adaptor thread sheared off with the weight of the gun hanging on it & that means it would continue to pump liquid out.I'm always careful to make sure that the least weight as possible is on the fitting.
This is why some sainsburys I've used have had signs saying no adaptors as they have had them shear off. Fortunately without gas escaping.

Living the dream.
I must admit I have started wearing gloves when filling up after I got a burn on the back of my hand. To get a bad burn like that there must have been a large escape of gas after the button was released?

It was in this area I had burns last year from a faulty gun. I was filling my LPG powered Dodge Ram and never had chance to press the button, it just gushed out of the nozzle all over me. Wonder if its the same filling station ?.

Might be worth you trying to find out - if it is the same thing then the chap may need your support to make a claim against the garage, or defend himself, if it was their equipment that was at fault and not his.

Must admit that this should be the first thing anyone does before they even touch an LPG pump! It is easy to be complacent as we are all used to filling with diesel/petrol but a small 'leak' of these don't cause you bad injuries as an escape of gas does.

I've come across a few pumps that won't 'lock on' to the inlet (genuine Gaslow filler) thus requiring me to hold onto the 'trigger' to keep it in place whilst hubby presses the button - it tends to be the older pumps.

just about ever uk as to use an
Non refillable with ebay adaptef? Just asking!
adaptor in portugal and the italian dish is well known for causing problems . the acme thread is far better . never used to hear of problems years ago. .plus the quality that is being sold of uk lpg places of adaptors is very poor in recent years . some are very badly made . and being sold by so called specialists .

ACME THREAD WAS USED IN UK,AMERICA ,SPAIN ,AND I BELIEVE IN PORTUGAL FOR YEARS . SOME PORTUGESE BOTTLE PLANTS STILL FILL HOUSE TANKS ON THE ACME TREAD . CERTAINLY UK DOES . I HAVE ONE . MAKES THE EU STANDARDS A JOKE . AND THE UK ONES .
BUT IF YOU HAVE A MODERN LPG TANK OR REFILLABLE BOTTLE YOU WILL HAVE TO ADAPT TO THE COUNTRIES FITTING . GAASLOW FOR ONE MAKE A VERY POOR JOB OF THEIR FITTINGS .

Yes we are OK as it happens we did our services to the van yesterday too including Lpg / Gpl ...we used the BP staion without any problems .
We normally use the Galp Stn ...but now it is a tight squeeze for us with our new van but saw no evidence of any problems on passing the Stn

I did see the gentleman involved though here walking on site yesterday late afternoon with 4 patches on his face ..

It wasn't until then that we knew anything about what had happened as had lovely friends visiting with us here

ps John just reminded me that we did hear a lot of sirens yesterday which was after our return

It was the Galp station that I had the mishap with. It would be interesting to know if both incidents were at the same station, and if in any way the circumstances were the same. Not that I could or want to do anything about it now, but it may stop another accident in the future.

my heart skipped a beat when i first saw this thread, my man is there, but thankfully, it wasn't him injured, wrong age..

good to see that the gentleman concerned was patched up and out of hospital, hopefully with no lasting damage..

I doubt there was anything wrong with the pump.

Possible lack of attention?

JJ

PS. My Gaslow fittings are fine and have worked perfectly for eight years, fulltiming.

Probably right @JJ. Although have been filling LPG tanks and bottles for neigh on 20 years with both legit and not quite so legit means, have never had a problem in the past until this one instance at the same pump as the other guy in Portugal. We both must have been not paying attention at the same place. I dont remember a leggy blonde in the vicinity at the time, but if so my attention could have been distracted :).

Only ever found one pump that the latch works on, normally takes 2 of us me holding the gun trigger & Mi pushing the button. I always wear gloves.

Well that could explain things. Me, I've never had one that did not work.

The BIG selling point of the Euro-connector is zero loss inserting and withdrawing.
