just looking
Hi

We currently have a caravan but are looking to upgrade to a motor home. Our caravan just fits through our barn doors (the first time it took my wife sitting on the top of our stepladders like. Wimbledon judge to check it would fit)

We live at 1000 ft in the dales of Co. Durham - it rains a huge amount, so keeping the van inside would be great. I think I have 2.57m to spare -we are looking for a low profile vehicle as we don’t want to sleep above the cab.

I have not managed to find much in the way of heights for motor homes - does anybody know of the height of a low profile motor home please?

cheers

2.75m is fairly common but accessories on the roof will take it over that. Doubt if you will find anything below 2.57m apart from small camper vans, even PVC's are higher than that.

A PVC may be okay, ours was under 2.6 m with a Maxview crank up dish which I have removed so probably under 2.57 now but it depends on what’s on the roof.

Even if I let the tyres down I doubt if my PVC would limbo under 2.57m without damaging the rooflights and awning case. Bye-bye DAB radio aerial.

The OP would need a rising roof campervan. Or, modify his barn doors to allow better clearance. 3m would be the minimum to go for.

I’ll measure mine tomorrow as I would like to know what it is.

My Autotrail V-Line (Ducato based PVC) is stated to be 2.68m height. I've never checked, and to be honest mentally add a good bit more if I see a low clearance sign. The highest projection is the omnidirectional TV aerial, but without that there are still the rooflights.

Stats for the Ducato, medium roof van as standard are 2.52m height. That might change slightly depending on the tyre size.

Ours is 2.67m. I put a new higher roof on the garage and made a swing door to go across the top of the existing door 👌

Without seeing the barn door lintel make up, [ could it be readily altered by adding a hinged leaf panel at the top ?] it may be you you'lle need to investigate a car port type of arrangement, but it won't be cheap. Even a "high cube " container only comes up at 9' 6".

My 2011 Peugeot Boxer is just over 2.5m - there is nothing on the roof

If you wanted a Panel Van Conversion (PVC) then you would need to take care checking any additional fitted solar panels/satellite dishes/aerials/skylights/etc

But it would be doable

I've got a chain saw you can borrow.

2.57m ? even if you can find one to fit then you'll probably want to add solar, TV aerial etc etc....

There are loads of the car port type available in France so you could import one and install it yourself. Some are telescopic and height adjustable. They also do MH size garages.

One example. Search "abris camping-car"

Measured my PVC today and if you ignore the floppy aerial at the front which can be pushed down then the highest point is the top of the Fiamma awning and that is 2.6 m.
I have fitted air suspension so it’s riding quite high and could be lowered a bit.

Sorry, don't quite understand the problem - most adverts for 'vans, at least from dealers, list the height along with length and breadth. BYW, if width matters to you, check the given measurement includes mirrors, bit late to find out after they've been knocked off!

We have a Bailey Autograph 765 which stands at 2.8 metres. It will fit under the tunnel in Rouen, France. (Don't ask me how I know this)
