Hi i wish we were that organised! signing on tomorrow in consett, no matter what happens our van will be the last thing to go, steve and nade.Hi @pigginchilli - sorry to hear your news
We will be heading off round Scotland too in 10 days time - loosely following the NC500. We have two campsite stops planned. One at Sango Sands, Durness and the other at Findhorn Bay Caravan Park. The rest of the time we plan to wildcamp and are just going to play each day as it comes.
Also I believe that the Scottish schools don't break up until June 24th so technically you will still be in the "quiet season". I'm sure someone will correct me if that is wrong
If you plan to head out to Applecross, some funsters have suggested it is better to approach from the north so you might want to go anti-clockwise? I don't think it matters really but there are other NC500 threads with the details on here.
Also the midges on the west coast are apparently something else! So you might want to stock up on Avon's Skin So Soft, Smidge and all things Citronella before you head off!!
Lastly, we've armed ourselves with OS Maps from the library - useful for spotting potential wilding sites
Happy travels

Thanks for the replies, life is too short to be negative! When i was full time farming i was lucky to get a week off, The simple things in life like the love of my wife nade and our humble savings will hopefully see us well and see what the future brings?
I used to do a 24-hour-on-call, 7-day-week, 52-weeks-per-year job (animals of course!) and then when I moved into 'normal' jobs I just couldn't get the hang of days off - it wasn't till I actually STOPPED working that I began to realise that life was for - well - living, enjoying, maybe even doing stuff for ME - so you're right, take this time to enjoy yourselves, your van, and each other. Make fabulous memories. Scotland's a great place for that. When i was full time farming i was lucky to get a week off

forgot to say, if you do go along the A75, try Portpatrick. big car park at lighthouse. our first ever overnight when we got the van last year. Probably still bits of the rear lamp cluster on the wee bollard as my wife was saying, "keep going, plenty of room yet!"
Better than the Pentland Firth?you can watch 5 separate tides converging on one area of sea. The huge whirlpools are a sight to behold.
