Twice recently, when turning my grey water dump valve on or off, the waste pipe has come apart at a joint underneath the van. It pushes back together easily enough but it’s a bit of a fag to crawl underneath, especially on a wet grass pitch. I want something to hold the joint together but I don’t want to glue it permanently, in case I need to separate the joint in the event of a blockage. I am thinking that a non-setting glue, or even a dab of Sikaflex sealant, might do the job. What do you think? All suggestions gratefully received.

Hi @Stretto Boy ,
Can I ask what make of coachbuilt you have , mine's a Bessacarr and have the same problem, but I cant get my arm up past the spring & axle etc.
On the joints I can reach I have used gaffa tape.

Don't use Sikaflex you will never get it off. I use ordinary silicon sealant on my rainwater drain pipe joints at home, stops the joints leaking but with a bit of effort can still get them apart.

There's lots of different fasteners on the market, would something like this hold it together for you?

Without seeing the problem, if using a jubilee clip to simply secure the pipe tighter to the fitting is not an option, I'd suggest getting two thumb turn jubilee clips, like PP Bear shows above.

Drill a small hole in the handle of each, secure them on the pipes either side of the fitting, then link them with a cable tie through the holes you've drilled to keep it all pulled together. Just cut the tie when you need to get the joint apart.

Alternatively you may be able to get away with just using 4 cable ties, 2 around the pipes securing 2 between them to hold the fitting together.

I'd avoid using tape - it just goes grotty eventually and either falls off or leaves a horrible sticky residue when you do take the tape off.

Had a similar problem - just drilled a small hole through the joint and put in the shortest screw I could find in my toolbox!

when the two pipes are separated ,run some masking tape around the outside part of the inner pipe a few times.
That will make it a tight fit when you reassemble the two parts , but at the same time you will be able to separate them again if needed.

7 years campers before that
if it pushes back into a socket a dab of sika on the outside will hold it in place and can be cut if you need to remove
