So…thinking ahead. Looking for a Campsite near natural swimming, river or sea, that is not overrun with children (don’t get me wrong…like children and have 2 myself but now they’ve grown up don’t want to watch other peoples children running amok in the campsite 😊 crashing into old ladies on their bikes and screaming that “it’s just so unfair” when told they can’t remove all the pegs from the next door neighbours tent “just for a laugh”).

Can be in mountains or coast…preferably in France or Spain…open to other countries though..must be in nice surroundings….preferably idyllic…have a supermarket or at least food/wine supplies within 10km for scooter shopping…or easy to drive out in MH for stock up….must be peaceful…or at least not manic….NO laid on entertainment…or Elvis Presley tribute bands. Oh and must be warm and sunny obviously…

But here’s the kicker…….in July and August 😥

Yes I know it can’t be found but maybe, just maybe you know somewhere. I expect this will be one of those zero reply threads.

There are several sites like that in the Dordogne.

Hmm…done Dordogne many many times in July and August when I had to travel during school holidays… probably the most busy, touristy and crowded part of France apart from maybe the Cote D’Azur…especially if your next to water.

Looking for somewhere a bit less crowded…

Caradale CAMC site :giggle:
Warm enough to swim without getting hypothermia 😊. Can’t stand CAMC or C&C sites either …or even MH’ing in UK in general…although never done Scotland…the 500 mile’er someone told me was good….always head south for weather though.

Ah yes…had the French one once…no idea where it’s gone…not in MH ☹️. Having difficulty getting books to me …in Spain at the moment. Amazon UK charge a fortune for delivery and Amazon.Es limited for English language books and are double the price.

I wouldn't proceed like that. I would take a map of France (ok Spain if you prefer, but indeed... France is good with rivers!) Then, I would point out all the places next to rivers ans streams that I find nice and suitable to drive to, I would have a look at the average forecast in summer in the area. Then I would have a look at the surroundings see if there is bar restaurant supermarket or even open air markets to make up my mind and make a list of 5 potential places I think might be good in summer. Then take each area one by one and would make a search for aires and campsites, possibly with apps for motorhomes.
Once I have found a few which look good with everything you asked for (without children is going to be difficult , but do put in your search "by a lake" as lots of parents will be afraid of possible accidents), I would ask the funsters if they have been there.
EDIT : Ariège is nice for all you're looking for

Thanks…that’s what I’ve been doing for 23 years ! …just though I’d take a bit of grunt out of it and ask on here…lazy I know ☹️. Gonna have a look at suavecarve stuff …hopefully with the updated map showing children per sq foot 😊

We must have gone to different parts. We've had many happy holidays in the Dordogne during Julys and August. Good luck.

If you ask for youtube video "Grands Sites de xxxxName of the regionxxx" of whatever region of France, you will have names of places to give you ideas. At least if Funsters can't help you you'll have other ways to find your little treasure!

If you fancy a particular area I could look for any around there and get the info to you ( of course not copying it 😉)

Although it pains me to say this, have a look at campingcarpark website, choose your place and it will tell you if there are vacancies.
Not the sort of places people will be taking kids to and far cheaper than sites.

Full Time 2011-2013, now part timers!
camping Le Pontet, St Astier, France
We were here years ago, but right on the river. Even I went swimming! Just over the bridge from a small town, & a bit rustic, but we liked it. We were there in July, & it wasn’t over run, as it’s quite a small site. It was 2013 though!

in 2018, we went to this site in the Ardeche in late August, 21st to 28th, after most French kids were back at school:-

Broken Link Removed

It's right next to the river and they drag rocks up with a digger every year to form a natural swimming pool - very pleasant! Kids about but not many, and it wasn't crowded, so those that were there had plenty of space. The site is terraced and split up into different areas so doesn't feel big at all. No entertainment, we avoid that like the plague as well! Small town a couple of miles away with the usual shops and a small supermarket, the usual fresh bread at reception, bigger town about half an hour if I remember rightly.

It was very pleasant - I'd go again.

That sounds great…but as you say French kids back at school…I expect the 6 weeks before it was quite a bit busier. But thanks..a possibility…and I like the Ardeche…kayaked down it a couple of times…again during school holidays with kids..

Small municipal campsite in Saint Léon sur Vézère, by the river, quiet and shaded.

There is a possible solution to your conundrum but you’ll have to be willing to remove all your clothes! Naturist campsites tend to be quieter and more civilised than textiles ones with some great locations. A good guide (in French) is Le Petit Futé Guide du Naturisme or get the Alan Rogers Selected Sites For Naturists guide book.
Beware, once you’ve tried it, you may never want to go back!
