Can anyone recommend a brand/ supplier of a decent quality Battery isolator switch and also a pair of mate busbars with covers. My battery & shunt terminals are getting a bit cluttered. I've seen a Victron Battery switch for about £35 and similar money for Chinese busbars on Amazon. I was thinking 300Amp should be ok for my 2 105AH AGM leisure batteries. Thanks

I have made a typo above no idea how the word "mate" before busbars snuck in - I cant seem to find an edit button on the first post to make the change. would someone be able to point me in the right direction please? thx

Edit button stays bottom left of your post for 30mins (I think) then it goes and you can’t edit, but don’t worry we all get typos 🥴

ah right - thanks - didn't know that (y)

Don't think anyone answered your question? I use 12volt Planet for all my 12v needs. Service excellent, loyalty points, quality gear and YouTube videos for the techies/novices with questions

In terms of bus bar and battery isolator, I will only use victron or blue sea. Blue sea has some nice isolators with arch protection as well. Nothing else beats the quality of these two. Even Duritte it’s nothing like it used to be.

Thanks. I have used 12voltplanet before but couldn't seems to find a suitable busbar. I am leaning towards all Victron gear and will look at that some more. Thanks both for resonding

I think your questions have been answered, except for this. If you type 'M 8' without the space, it gets spell-checked to 'mate'. Got me more than once :banghead: :giggle:
Thanks for solving the puzzle! I did indeed type ‘M 8’ without the space 🙄

Just continuing the topic of busbars, what amp rating should I go for? I’m looking at adding a 2000w invertor or possibly even a Victron inverter/ charger at some point ( along with 200ah lithium) . What are thoughts on a brass plate busbar attaching directly to my Victron shunt? The installation area will be sealed under a screw down plywood cover so bare connections ought not to be an issue.

Brass or copper bar with brass bolts diy it’s not bad. You can buy copper bar 20x5 x150mm and just drill it to suit the bolts. Then get some m5-6 brass bolts and you got a nice solid distribution.

I suppose copper is better. I thought brass only because thats what the shunt seems to be made from.

Found this on fleabay. Its pricy but could be fabricated I am sure. The holes are threaded too.

Copper is a better conductor but it's very soft, won't make a strong thread for nuts and bolts etc., so brass is used instead for the hard parts like the ends of a shunt or the pins of a plug. Copper is fine if it's just being clamped.

If you use brass bolt and nut, you don’t need to tap any thread into the bar. I rather prefer nut than shallow bar thread on a mobile installation.
