Hello swishbangers !

We’re considering a PVC as the current coachbuilt is a little too cumbersome for the wife to drive and I’d prefer something more ‘van-like’ as a driving experience. We don’t carry much luggage so downsizing is possible for the right van. We are average height so don’t need to worry about fitting into the van.

We do a lot of weekend travelling and would consider a trailer for holidays.

These are some of our needs,

We need a transverse double bed at the rear (permanent set up but no bunk beds) and separate bed for our 7-year-old preferably something easy to set up at the front of the van in the lounge area

We need a continental van which we can buy in Europe

We need a full size fridge/freezer

We need a separate shower and toilet preferably without a stick-to-you shower curtain

Would prefer a longer van for more comfort

We travel light though a reasonable payload obviously

The Rapido V55 looks like it could be something that would interest us - but I’ve only just started to look so this model is not a benchmark - I need to have some other ideas to compare with

Budget 50,000 Euro –

Any hep with this hopefully not too impossible list of criteria. Looking forward to any replies

Take a look at Globecar. We have a Campscout which has longitudinal beds which are big and very comfy but transverse versions are also available. There is a shower curtain but we it's not one that sticks at all as the shower is large enough to stay away from it in use, it just keeps the rest of the "bathroom" dry.

Globecar sell under Pössl brand in Europe. The Roadcruiser is the Campscout equivalent.

We have a Hobby Vantana Ontour. Similar layout to the Rapido V55.
Good level of useful kit for the price! Not
Not had any problems with the shower curtain at all. I think it is just a matter of a decent sized room rather than squeezing the facilities into the smallest space possible!
The bed is plenty big enough, transvers( can be folded up if required but gives space enough for two bikes underneath, without folding the bed.
Third bed can be made up in the front lounge, if the sleeper is not too tall. You still get access to the kitchen and side door when it is in use.
All in a van just under 6m. Good payload and loads of internal storage.
Nice and easy to drive around, especially as the wife usually wants to drive most of the time!

Hobby Vantana Ontour looks great but only a 90 ltr fridge.

Sunlight Cliff 600.….got plenty of real world photos of layout and storage should you want some.

German made and many dealers there. (y)

We have recently picked up our new Bürstner Eliseo C602. It’s 6 m long and may be worth looking at.

Ours has a swing-wall shower which may meet your needs. The lounge seat can be converted to a single bed (it’s an optional extra, so we didn’t bother with it). it looks like the European/LHD versions are supplied with a 138 litre fridge (ours has an oven and a 90 litre fridge). The transverse rear bed is 1.38 m wide, and it’s fine for us.

Their website has prices in Euros and a useful configurator, but I suspect that, with ‘necessary’ options, it will be well above your budget.

HTH

I think a swingwall shower means the Toilet and Shower share the same space. You can swing the shower out of the way to make more space. Just guessin

Is the transverse bed version also called Campscout ?

I'm looking for a decent size fridge/freezer. Thanks for the offer of photos

Below are a couple of photos which we found on an Italian online magazine site (https://www.camperonline.it/home). The first shows the swing wall pulled across the bathroom in order to cover the toile. The second shows the bathroom in the ‘normal‘ position, allowing use of the toilet and sink.

BTW we haven‘t been away in our van as yet. There’s just about enough space. And cupboard storage is limited. The only real disadvantage of the layout is that the swing wall obscures the side window, but there is enough light, thanks to the roof vent. On balance, the designers seem to have made the most of the limited space available in a PVC. So, we are quite pleased with the layout.

No - The Roadscout, Roadscout R and the longer Globescout. If you visit their website and go to the "configurator" you can see the layouts without providing your details for the full brochure download. We had a transverse bed in our previous 6m compact Hymer (C408) which was a coachbuilt but of PVC dimensions. At 6' 1" I was never comfortable in it - love the big longitudinal bed and the huge boot under it (of course you could always sleep across the bed!).

Nobody has mentioned Adria or Benimar. Anyone know/have these ?

Adria Twins are great but you won’t get a new one on your budget, plus the lead times are horrendous at the moment.

Agree with all that except the "comfy" classification of the beds. They are quite firm and we took them to a foam supplier who sliced 3 cms off them and added 5cms topping. The covers still fitted well and the result was much more comfort, but it's a personal thing as some people like firm beds..

Sorry just re-read your post and I doubt you will get a Campscout for 50,000 but it does have the big 3 way fridge/freezer.

Not buying new. Trying to get my head around all their model numbers, is there one specific you had in mind ?

HymerCar is a good place to look 👀 the free range is the more base vehicle then the Fiat range such as Ayres rock Yosemite Grand Canyon etc and then there is the Mercedes range with similar free and grand canyon S but of course even the Free starts at £52k

We bought a new Adria Twin Plus 640 SLB in Germany December 2020 and brought it back.
Excellent beds, excellent swingwall showerroom. Fridge is a compressor fridge on 12v. We added a big second battery plus solar and it coped fine after the additions. Not sure if they do a much bigger fridge freezer. If this is a deal breaker for you, I would consider an additional 12v compressor freezer box in the cavernous boot for extra?? General quality good.
For your childbed, have a look at Patented Cabbunk as they work well and add one or two beds in the cab but they leave your lounge intact. 30 seconds each night. As for cost, get in quickly and consider ex-demo as prices have just jumped by as much as £10k.
Very best of luck.

Go on YouTube and search for Alan Heath, he lives in a motor home in Poland. He travels round the big motorvan shows and covers quite a few different styles of van. Jot down any you like, then look for their site on the web.

Had an Adria Twin , 600 SP, lovely van with great big garage below rear transverse rear bed , front bed is a bit of a faff to make up at night but a decent size for a child , decent fridge but not the size you quote , fold down sink was a bit of a pain but new models have swing shower , has space for 2 gas bottles which is a bonus as we had one refillable Gaslow ideal for touring abroad and easy to swop the other Calor in the UK , moved onto an Elddis CV20 with 2 big singles/double in the rear with big UK cooker suits us better. 4BEE735C-F610-4175-BAA9-9FDA8939025F.jpeg9BCEF03B-1293-43FC-8945-C1B1F4A49FD9.jpeg4A1368CD-E192-4AE6-A2AA-517D260E77B4.jpeg

Adria Twin Plus 640 SLB - doesn't have the transverse rear bed we are looking for. Nice van.

Patented Cabbunk - looks like a kids hammock !

It’s funny how different we all are isn’t it? We use M&S mattress toppers on ours. We do always go for mattresses on the firm side when buying for home.
