Less chance of flooding, beyond that I'm stumped
I bet night time loo visits are interesting, slalom down the bonnet ?

Have seen a few, one pulled in on site a couple of years ago, we had been celebrating ;) so I shouted don't jump it's not worth it. apart from our little group, not even a smile. next day, and every day till we left, got don't jump it isn't worth it ha ha ha :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: from a Belgian camper who had been most amused. Hasn't made me think before I speak though. Prefer my walk into the back and get something or go to bed without going outside when it is persisting down.

While doing the Velodyssey, the cycle route up the west coast of France, we stayed one night at a site where someone had one of these. It was a tent on top of a Land Rover. Very neat but in the night the Mother of all Thunderstorms arrived. One flash and bang was simultaneous and the strike was clearly very close. All the camp electrics went out.

We slept on in our little tents but I'm not sure I'd have felt happy on the roof of a vehicle. However, it is probably safer on top of a vehicle sitting on rubber tyres than being on the ground. If lightening hits the ground it tends to arc out along the surface. On top of a vehicle you might, perhaps counter-intuitively, be safer. I wonder if @Mikescuba knows the answer?

I was going to say that we had one, but we've actually still got - it's just sat unused in the garage for the last 4 years.

They are very quick to deploy, unzip the cover and then open it up by unfolding it using the ladders and voila, ready to use. You can take an extra 2 mins to put the 'window' supports in if you want.

It has a built in mattress, so very comfy sleep and no cold ground to come into contact with. It is however, a little disconcerting in high winds on an already relatively high vehicle (we used it on a Disco).

However, after one particular cold night camping in the Limousin (-10C) we decided we needed a proper camper with creature comforts (heating and toilet) and so bought the van we have today.

We were on a campsite in Scotland last year and about 9.30 pm a car parked next to us. A Japanese couple got out and started to set up a tent on the roof of their car. They were still out there after midnight going backwards and forwards to the boot of their car and up to the tent. When we woke up at 7.30 the next morning they, their tent and their car were gone!

It's also handy in the morning there's a little flap at the front you stick your head out of then your partner hits the windscreen washer button and you get your face washed automatically.
You can try it on the other end too of course

If I'm sleeping in the overcab, I have enough trouble finding the ladder to get down for my pee in the early hours, so I can't imagine trying to get out the tent and down a ladder to find a tree to pee against. That would be a challenge I'd rather not try.

Or, just park up against the tree?
