Just seen this https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-46564884 saying after 2021 deal or no deal we will need a ETIAS similar to US ESTA scheme but it only allows 90 days in EU, so for anyone long terming over there not sure what happens???

As I see it after 90 days they will have to come out of the Schengen zone for 9O days if they enforce the 90 days in 180.

You are only allowed 90 consecutive days now without becoming an 'automatic' resident, without applying.
If this happens ,then once a 'resident ' your vehicle becomes illegal due to the fact that a resident cannot drive a foreign plated vehicle. Most people have no idea what the laws actually are. Fortunately for most the police & authorities don't either.

Is that just for Spain or EU wide?

Just needs us to impose the same terms on them..They are trying to frighten us,,How would they enforce it? Just shows what bullies The E U are. Quicker we are out the better.BUSBY.
We don’t though do we, we don’t have access to their “dvla” or whatever it’s called like they do to ours.

I think if we come out and give them two fingers there will be other countries not too far behind us.
Then the behemoth that has tried to become a Federal Europe will crumble, and all those unelected nobheads trying to enforce governance on others will be out of a job.
Let's hope. It will be painful for a while but like you I would like us to govern ourselves. Already thinking of giving France a miss for holidays next year and exploring the UK some more.

There are other very nice places other than Europe to spend a good bit of the winter, not necessarily with the wagon.
Cheers

But aren't they in the Schengen zone, after 90 days you will have to come out of the zone for 90 days.

Really don't understand what the issue is? The UK will no longer be a member of the EU consequently free movement will no longer be applicable for UK folks going to a EU country. Just as there is a there is an ESTA scheme for travel to the US, so there will be for travel to the EU. If you want to stay greater than 90 consecutive days it will need a visa. Be the same for non UK folks travelling to the UK

Sound good didn't think it would be that easy.

Imagine wanting to stay more than 90 days in France:eek:

Thailand, Malaysia, Goa, Caribbean, to name a few.
Our aim is to dodge the winter weather which we currently do here in Spain, if the EC wishes to restrict our access post brexit then we will go elsewhere, simples :xgrin:

Bet if we leave they won't thin out their cost base. Sack people? "Non. Nein, zat wood be not vot ve do."

"We will need more people to manage the withdrawal so will need even more money from you. "

It would be heaven Chris, you can even get real ale in the supermarkets now.:xgrin:

Even if it was free beer I think I would still die of boredom Lenny.

Alright for those with plenty of disposable income. I know how much it costs us when we go to Thailand for 6 weeks to visit our daughter, stay at her place some of the time & only use cheap hotels still costs a packet.

You still have free movement so those rules don’t apply, at least not in France. You will need to apply for residency once the UK leaves, it won’t be automatic, nor is it now.
Once you are a resident, you have 3 months to re register your vehicle though this can be extended in certain circumstances.

Exactly we are stuck on an island surrounded bu the EU and if we want a cheaper option to tour not only in winter we are stuck, but hey its what the people wanted I guess?:xsad:

You are still restricted on the length of time on your visa, I think places like Goa are 60 days, so I suppose 90 days in Europe go home park up and jump on a plane. :xThumb:
I can recommend the Maldives been twice, but you would need a large wallet to stay all winter.:xrofl: Bob.

And the countries in question will lose the income from those Brits.
However tourism in the UK should benefit, and I’m not complaining as I have two holiday cottages!
Some of the comments on this thread highlight the misconceptions a lot of people have about the rules.
We have a boat in Greece where we spend / spent several months a year. We are / were also hoping to buy a place in Spain. Whatever happens we have been thinking long and hard about where we should allocate our 90 /183 days, and investigate applying for residency in either of those countries to make life a little bit easier.
If you apply for residency in one of those countries you will have to live there and you will only be able to spend 90 days in another EU country without returning to your place of residency for another 90 days.
You will be in the same situation, just in a different country.

The 90 day rule won’t worry most people going to the EU for holidays, ( although travelling with a dog may present a few more problems if there is no deal) so I don’t think tourism either way will change much over time.

Cross into Gibraltar perhaps?
OK if you're prepared to spend 90 days there. I haven't been to Gibraltar, but from reading some of the comments on this site, it doesn't sound to be too appealing.
After 90 days in the Schengen zone, you will have to leave the zone for the next 90 days before you will be allowed back in. It's not a matter of just leaving the zone for a day or two. :(

Yes that’s the idea. The current idea is to live in Spain and holiday for 90/183 days on our boat in Greece. Plus visit family in the U.K. at various times too.
