Crystal Palace or Abbey Wood for links and convenience into Central London and the Abba Arena, TIA.

Abbey Wood - Rail into London is already good - Will be even better after the 24th May when the Elizabeth line finally opens.

Use the DLR to get to Pudding Mill Lane (y)

Really - Crystal palace is 7 miles out of central london and Abbey wood is 15. ???
Both sites are OK, not much to put one above the other - but transport via rail into Central London will probably just be edged by Abbey Wood once the Elizabeth line opens on the 24th May. It's just 7 stops Abbey Wood to Central London (Tottenham Court Road) Direct service

Sydenham to Tottenham Court Road is 10 stops to Whitechapel then change to Elizabeth line and 3 further stops

We found getting to the Abbey Wood site from the M25 in the van easier than getting to the Crystal Palace site too

It depends on the age of your vehicle.

If its Euro 6/2014'ish then no ULEZ to pay, in which case Abby Wood is the better option.

If however it's older then look for a site just beyond the M25 that is near a station that will whisk you into Central London.

Do not compare London to other cities, you don't measure distance, you measure time.

Crystal Palace may be closer to central London, but I would beat you to the the Bank of England coming from Abbey Wood, and if I were staying out at somewhere like Ashford (70 miles south east, in Kent) a good chance you could beat all of us, same would apply to places in Southern Essex .

The other alternative is Wyatts Covert CMCC site at Denham, just off the M25. Ok with a car and caravan because you will need to get to a Tube car park giving direct links into London, eg Uxbridge or Hillingdon stations 10 mins drive.
