HELLO FUNSTERS, I am looking for a nice campsite for my MOHO between Tours and Blois which also has a 2 person gitte for some friends who want to join us on a weeks trip but are arriving on motorcycle, anyone any good ideas for accomodation? Also intend to hire small car when there instead of taking toad, anyone any idea of good reliable companies and costs??? Thanks for thoughts of whatever kind!!

Ever since lighting was by Calor gas.
Many French camp sites have chalets/static caravans on the same site as tourers. If you're going July/Aug though you'd be well advised to book in advance.

Slightly west of Tours there is a fabulous campsite at Saumur, on an island in the river and just a 2 min walk across the bridge to the town centre. It also has lots of accommodation to rent - from raised safari type tents to some very smart looking modern chalets.

Don't know about car hire offhand but will probably be easier somewhere slightly larger like Saumur.

The town and chateau are great to visit AND the first Wednesday and Thursday of August there is a festival La Grande Tablée - food and as much Saumur wine you can drink in the square in front of the town hall. Great fun - about 10,000 people go over the two evenings. Here's a link Link Removed

If you don't mind being away from the river and up in the hills a bit there is a very pleasant small site run by an English couple.
It has about 15 pitches plus 3 gites and is a very sociable place with communal meal nights and pizza nights.

We have been there several times since they first took the site over and are always greeted like old friends.

Richard.
