After leaving the Newbury show on Sunday night we are off via the tunnel to the Loire area. Any suggestions of where to visit and what to see. We have bikes (electric) and understand it is fairly flat in that area.

Departement 44 (Loire-Atlantique) or Departement 43 (Haute-Loire) or Departement 42 (Loire) or a bit of Loire in between? There's a lot of Loire.

We are in Saumur at the moment and yes, it's very nice if a little wet! Thunderstorms last night but today looks like the start of spring.......

I'm going to Loire in June and don't know the area but research seems to suggest Amboise, blois, Tours, Saumur for chateaux, vineyards and gardens so that's where were heading.
Let us all know where you ended up and what you thought please.
PS from what I hear you can't go far wrong anywhere in that region !

If in the Saumur area go to Rochemenier near Louresse. A very interesting ancient Troglodyte underground village just to the south of Saumur.
Head out on the D960 to Doue-la-Fontaine and then the D761 north towards Louresse. A basic route but I'm sure you can vary it.
Do as many Chateau as you can too.
Also visit the sparkling wine houses i.e. Ackerman etc, to the west of Saumur. Some fantastic wines and you can tour of the wine caves too. If you like mushrooms there are many mushroom caves along the Loire near Saumur too you can tour.
Loved the Loire, hope you enjoy it to.

A little to the south you've got Parc Puy du Fou near Les Eppesses. Worth a look in its own right, and for the Cinescenie which usually runs on Friday & Saturday nights. Vast aire attached to the parc.

Something I've always wondered when driving through the region - do the staff of the Angers Mairie have to attend regular Angers Management courses?
