ive noticed a lot of people on here seem to be able to pin point places they have stayed in the past are the logging their travels into some sort of software?
also when you are at a location how do you get the lat and long for it
weve been logging into a book for a couple of years and would like to be able to do it on the pad and store it

A normal vehicle GPS should have a "where am I" function. Smart phones can also do it. A walking type GPS can also, if in the UK, give you a grid reference, a 10 figure one for mine.

If you want to get the Lat \ Lon for a place before you get there (to enter into your sat nav?) you can get it from Google Maps.

I have tried a few ways of logging our trips on netbooks, tablets and phones, easiest is a notebook. I record date, destination and distance, time, average speed and fuel consumption from the trip computer. Used this system for ten years now. Also log every time I fill up to compare consumption tankful to tankful.
