Hi been on lately my HYMER B698 2014 has no power when on hook up and all the items that need power is switched off. But the 240v box with safety cut out and F1 switch trips no mater which way the switches are set. I’ve been told it is probably the battery charger is this easy to find and fit. Thanks 🙏

Hi, so you have mains lead plugged in and it trips the main breaker ?

if that is so the first place i would be looking is at the hook up lead and its connections into the mains board of the van.

Welcome.
Try to eliminate one thing at a time.
Try using a different EHU cable. If it works with another cable, then it's a problem with your cable.
If not, switch everything that uses mains off (fridge, heating, charger).
If the trip doesn't (I hope you understand), switch things back on, one at a time until it does.
Then you have found the circuit with the offending item.
If more than one thing is on that circuit, Switch them all off, and repeat switching one on at a time to discover what's at fault.
As I am unfamiliar with Hymer, I cannot help with the location of your charger.
(- Next time, I'd give my post a better heading!-)

i think then its case of a process of elimination one source at a time.
can you unplug the charger unit.

I don't know if you mean the 240V box on the hookup post, or the 240V box in the motorhome, near the hookup inlet.

If it's the hookup post that is tripping, try just plugging in the hookup cable when it's not plugged into the motorhome inlet. If it trips, there's a fault with the cable. If it doesn't trip, try the next step.

Next, turn off all the protection devices in the motorhome consumer unit (OFF = DOWN), and try plugging the cable into the inlet. If it trips, there's a fault between the motorhome inlet socket and the consumer unit. If it doesn't trip, try the next step.

Next, look for the protection device that has a test button on it. You can tell if it is an RCD or an RCBO. Both should have '30ma' or '0.03A' written on it. An RCBO will also have C16, C10, B16 or B10 written on it.

Start by switching on just the RCD or RCBO. If it trips, there's a fault in the motorhome consumer unit wiring. The other protection devices, thatdon't have a test button, are called MCBs. Turn on the MCBs, one at a time, and see which one causes the tripping..

To answer your question about the charger - Hymers have a central 12V distribution/fusebox called an Electroblock (EBL). It contains fuses, switches and relays. The mains charger is built into the EBL. The mains power to the charger comes into the EBL front panel through a plug/socket that looks like a kettle plug. If you pull out that plug, it will remove power to the charger.

Another possibility is a bit of damp in one of the cable plugs. They are supposed to be weatherproof (IP44) but sometimes they aren't quite, especially DIY assembled. The damp causes earth leakage, which trips an RCD or RCBO. When it dries out, the fault mysteriously disappears.
